If this continues, someone has to get fired.

I am talking about McDouche, Stan or the coach.

I know you guys give me crap for this every time I put it out there, but I think it may have been a fireable offense for Stan Bowman to get rid of one of the three greatest hockey coaches of all time in order to install a hand-picked toady from the goddamn Swedish league. Proven great coaches are hard to come by in this league; you don't throw them away.

I like your hockey thoughts CH but I disagree with you on this. Q's methods weren't working anymore with this group.

Is man-on-man defense working? It doesn't appear to be, certainly not when almost everyone in the system and everyone in the league runs zone.

Gotta agree. He ran his course. It was pretty clear early on, Q and Stan were not on the same page. Stan drafted a way that did not fit Q's style and I think that caused in issue in developing talent.

Not defending Colliton, just saying it was time for Q to go. I'll agree with you that Colliton might not be the guy.

Are you suggesting you have to hit on every coach? I mean, I am not a fan of Stan, but I think he deserves 1 more hire. His off season independent of Q, has been different.

I don't think that's possible without major-junior pitching a bitch. He's under 20 and not American-born.

EDIT: ah, the conditioning assignment loophole, I see now. Well, eventually he'll either have to stay the year or go back to Saskatoon.

Not promising when your top 2 prospects have concussion issues.

No, not at all, and playing against the going-nowhere-fast headhunters in the American league probably can't help, either. Thing is, he can't go back to the Dub to rehab or he's gone for the year, and besides, he's already a man among boys there, anyway. It's bad all around. Hope it turns out all right.

The developmental system on both the major-junior and AAA side needs reform.

No questioning Q's greatness, but he's not the right guy for a rebuild. Even during the Cup years the main knock against him was giving clearly washed up guys like Handzus beaucoup ice time at the expense of younger players like Teravinen.

The issue now is whether not Colliton is Lorne Molleken redux. Looked like the right guy for the job when the season was lost and there's no pressure, then the next season is exposed as a minor league guy clearly in over his head.

I will always question the “greatness” of Q. He has always been a good to very good coach but I won’t call him great. Look at when he won in Chicago- incredibly stacked rosters with several HOFers in their prime. He’s not the only coach that would have won 3 Cups with those rosters. Let’s see how he does in Florida. He was a solid, above-average coach before coming to Chicago.

In terms of Colliton, this man-to-man D has to go. They don’t have the speed to play it. But how does he change it now?

Anyone notice Gus with only 16 minutes last night? As the Chitown Podcast pointed out this week, Colliton called out Gus’s D play unprompted. If this team is out of the playoff hunt they definitely need to move him at the deadline.

Stan might wanna have a chat with Colliton. There is no way they re-sign him, so they need to build up his value so they can trade him.

A bit more physical play from some of the new additions last night, funny how the mantra on the score is that, "physical play gets you out of position", especially when a good forecheck causes modern NHL D men to cough up the puck with regularity. Toews and Kane don't appear to be buying into Colliton's system early which means he's not likely long for the job. Better off bringing in a proven veteran coach they may actually listen to and one with a much better defensive system.

I blinked at some point and missed that the Oilers replaced Ken Hitchcock with Dave Tippett. I do not want Ken Hitchcock.

Yeah. Consider that an organization as perpetually benighted as the Oilers looked at him and said "get out, you suck." The Oilers! (Though Tippett's game is boring as hell, too. I trust that he's not so dumb as to run six-goalie with Connor McDavid on the ice, at least.)

Nifty goal by Nylander, 2-0 with about 13 left in the third.

The entire front office should be fired for allowing Colliton to start Crow.
