David Ross will be a very successful manager. I don't know if that would start in 2020 or not.

Theo wants a yes man who won't rock the boat. Good for him, not the franchise. Joe was battle tested in New York and isn't buddy buddy with the 2020 Cubs roster.

I have been calling for Girardi since he was canned by the Yankees. I wanted him as the Manager instead of Joe Maddon, but Girardi chose to go back to New York. My fear is that he chooses the Mets and a return to New York again. People act as if this whole Ross/ Girardi choice is completely up to the Cubs. Maybe a deal has not been struck, because Girardi is weighing other options. As much as I would like Girardi to take the job, I believe Ross will be an excellent manager as well. Either works for me, but obviously Girardi is the proven commodity.

Am kind of surprised at this. He isn't an ace or anything but if he gives you his 2019 performance over the same 150 or so innings that is a pretty fair price for the $17MM or whatever.

Alternatively, I'd guess that Hamels turns down the offer and there is a potential for draft pick compensation coming back to the Cubs. Might freeze out Hamels' market though.

Why allow him to sign the QO when you have a fair shot and resigning him for a much friendlier deal?
