LeBron literally draws his money from China so it's fair game to expect him to take a stand and then smack him down when he kisses the ring of a regime responsible for nearly 100 million deaths in the last 70 years.

There wasn't anything that he could have said that wouldn't have gotten him smacked. If he stands with the people then people would have criticized him for waiting.

Staying quiet would've been better than LeBron being a shit.

No it wouldn't. He was going to take a beating no matter what.

I understand why he would want Morey to wait a week. The players probably pissed themselves a little bit and were concerned about their safety.

Nas, you're such a joke here. LeBron could've made a statement condemning the actions of China and he would've been lauded as a hero, especially if it would have had repercussions with his wallet. Matt Stone and Trey Parker (2 men with 100 times the courage of LeBron) could've also made millions selling their licenses in China and selling viewership rights for their show. They stood up for basic freedoms and then doubled down. LeBron on the other hand decided to show he's a whiny little B&tch

As for this being about "safety" that's just bullshit and even you should know that. He's in the US now, and he's making possibly the most retarded statement that came from anyone over the last 10 days regarding China.

He would have been criticized no matter what. It's the cost he pays for being the first NBA megastar to be courageous enough to speak out against injustices in black communities and also criticizing a sitting president.

Speaking of courage, when are you going to put in work like Micah Xavier Johnson? Or do you just prefer to post that type of ignorance on this forum? Your inaction says a lot about you. Especially considering that you aren't risking hundreds of millions of dollars. You and LeBron have more in common than you realize.

No one would've criticized him if he took a basic stand for human right such as democracy. The little b*tch decided those Chinese checks mean more to him than freedom of expression or self determination.

He complains about having a tough week. Go tell that to the people in Hong Kong or those in concentration camps. If LeBron spoke out against China, he'd be lauded as a national hero, especially if he took a financial hit to do so.

Congrats on being the only person in America still defending this pathetic asswipe. He has literally united AOC and Ted Cruz. That's something.

What actions have you taken to help the people in China? After all, you don't have hundreds of millions to lose. Surely you've done something for a cause that is near and dear to your heart.

When will you be as courageous as Micah Xavier Johnson? Murdering a cop for no reason beyond him being a cop is courageous and should be celebrated.

It would be very cool if NBA fans would boycott the games and burn their home town jerseys. Why not? The product itself is shitty and now they have outlined how ready that they are to kiss up to China. So why support the NBA in any way. Hell, the games are pretty much orchestrated and certainly the teams reaching the semifinals and finals are fixed. Now it is all about selling shoes, namely Nike shoes bought by the peasants in China and made by peasants in China.

I have changed my purchasing habits and canceled subscriptions for games that are from publishers owned in part or in full by Tencent.

I've worked to signal boost some of the voices on the ground there.

It's about all I can do from 9,000 miles away. It's far more than what the person receiving tens of millions of dollars from China is doing.

Unless you have family there, I'm confident there isn't a person posting here who would risk hundreds of millions of dollars to offer meaningless verbal support to the people of China or anywhere else in the world. It's easy for all of us to beat our chest when we have nothing to sacrifice.

It is a business decision. I'm sure Lebron understands now why NFL owners do not allow Kaep to play. It is all about business.

Does China really think that Adam Silver, Steve Kerr, Lebron James are anti-democracy, pro-jackbooted thugs, just b/c they make disapproving noises about Morey's tweet? Probably not. China is assho but Chiner not stupid.

After spending the last week in China and having a week+ to have his team (Maverick et al, not the Lakers) sort out what his response should be to Morey's HK tweet, Lebron landed on approximately "Morey was wrong to communicate his support for HK how and when he did". According to his updated response to his response, Lebron's not saying don't support the HK protesters, as far as anyone can discern. Lebron simply said it was a bad look for Morey on the eve of the NBA's Big Chiner Week to pop a tweet expressing support for the protesters. Hard to argue. Lebron prolly could've expressed it better first go around; especially since they had all that time to work on a response. "Don't poke the pooh bear when you're about to be a guest in the bear's den" is Judith Martin 101.

You hated him when he non violently spoke out against injustices in America and now you want him to give a speech about Vietnam? How did that work out for MLK? Silence while being abused was good for the careers of Jackie and Hank.

Both are business decisions but sticking your nose into geopolitics is different from speaking out on issues in America. Speaking out against injustices that impact the lives of your players and people who look like them.

Since you have nothing to lose, what are you doing to help the people of China?

Yes, LeBron speaking will turn China into America. They've shown over the years that they are willing to make changes when a country with a 1/4 of their population lectures them.

Money over meaningless virtue signaling. LeBron is being criticized because he spoke out against injustices in America. No one in this thread gives a crap about his geopolitical thoughts.

What are you going to sacrifice for the people in China?

That's true. I don't give a shit about any athlete's thoughts on subjects outside of their sport. And even then barely.

But if you are going to be an outspoken voice against injustice, you can't come back and say Morey wasn't smart and didn't have facts on the ground or talk about how it put you and your fellow players in a tough position.

Come back from China, say something generic like "Oppression of human rights isn't cool" and move on.

You don't come back after a few days when the story has died down and essentially say "sure it may be rough for Hong Kong but the real victims are NBA players".

This is kinda a "What about prostate cancer "argument during breast cancer awareness month though. I am guessing LeBron was bothered more about Morey not thinking about the safety of the players before retweeting

Unless you have family there, I'm confident there isn't a person posting here who would risk hundreds of millions of dollars to offer meaningless verbal support to the people of China or anywhere else in the world. It's easy for all of us to beat our chest when we have nothing to sacrifice.

So, money over decency ... got it.

Money over meaningless virtue signaling. LeBron is being criticized because he spoke out against injustices in America. No one in this thread gives a crap about his geopolitical thoughts.

What are you going to sacrifice for the people in China?

Spare me your phony platitudes ... who do you think you're peddling that crap to? Certainly not me, I hope.

He could've chosen to say something far less controversial than he did. But he didn't. He actively, willfully chose not to. And why? Money. You'll forgive me if I don't exclaim, "won't somebody PLEASE think of LeBron's money?!?"

I'm not going to be a fan of someone choosing money over saying something at least blasé and neutral, if not potentially helpful.
