What is funny about that?

The fact it's a 100% bullshit excuse, as evidenced by the comments of Kerr, Popovich, LeBron, Harden etc. when all of them were outside of China when they made their idiotic statements.

Just admit this is about selling shoes and getting his dumbass movie cleared by Chicomm censors.

China doesn't strike me as a nation unwilling to use a someone like LeBron to make a political statement.

LeBron was in fucking California when he made an ass of himself yesterday. This is 100% about him making money.

Why can’t it be both money and safety?

Some of you guys strike me as extreme this or that thinkers.

Hard to see LeBron as the victim here. China would not have done anything to him. He tried to silence someone and got burned.

There's no spin here. LeBron's work has always been on issues that impact the lives of the underprivileged in black America. He's concerned about the police killing unarmed black men and not being held accountable until recently. China isn't his fight, black America is. That shouldn't be difficult for any reasonable person to understand.

I do agree with you when it comes to Morey. My assumption was that he was upset about Morey not thinking about the safety of the players before sending his tweet. If not, he shouldn't have said anything.

I support LeBron's work when it comes to that. I supported Kaepernick even before you did. The fact remains that LeBron deserves A LOT of criticism for lecturing Morey. If he stayed silent I think you'd at least have a valid point. But he didn't stay silent or indifferent. He offered up his opinion in the same way he did for American politics, and his opinion is that he supports China's authoritarian regime and he does not support the Hong Kong protesters. He made that blatantly clear.

What I've taken from the last few hours is that LeBron James is a crusader for Black America.

Let's answer this question...who would the players need to be kept safe from?

If I was going to attempt a defense of LeBron's comments, and it's a very difficult thing to attempt, I would start the narrative that it was about money, but not just his money. As the most powerful player in the league by a wide margin, his point about ramifications to the salary cap would affect all current and future players, and not just him because he's pretty much set anyway and only going to get one more contract at most after this one is up.

It's not a great defense, but it's better than he feared for his safety in Los Angeles.

I think he was talking about the timing of the tweet. So it doesn't matter where he said "Morey is uneducated".

Even then his safety wasn't threatened. He's LeBron fucking James. Worst thing China would do is deport him and give him a visa ban. Celebrity gives him a sort of privilege that ensures he won't be sent to a camp like anyone else in China.

The Chinese are diabolical evil assholes, but they aren't stupid.

Please, he wasn't threatened.

His wallet may have been, but he wasn't.

The only person in the NBA being threatened is Enes Kanter, and he subtweeted the hell out of LeBron yesterday

This whole thing was self-inflicted. The suggestion that people are asking the NBA to fix China is a canard. People are simply asking them not to censor their employees from critiquing an authoritarian ethno state, and for those NBA employees who claim to be so concerned about injustice to not tacitly endorse a government who murders its own citizens.

Retweeting something put the players in danger? That's ridiculous. LeBron is attacking someone for speaking out on justice issues. It's a terrible look. It's also pretty embarrassing that the person who want to be a global icon is limited to only speaking out about social issues if it concerns black men in America. So if it benefits him and his friends.

It could have. There is nothing ridiculous about it. If China is willing to kill their own "citizens"who aren't submissive, what makes you think they wouldn't make a statement with American athletes?

We're all at the very least a little tribalistic and after reading your posts it's clear that you aren't exempt from that. Neither am I. LeBron's work in his community has been positive and the successes ultimately will benefit all of America.

Plus, for all we know, the State Dept may have also advised the NBA. There's some very delicate negotiations going on.

The same group of hypocrites currently bashing the league for censoring the players are the group that applauded the censorship of "the squad" about a month month and a half ago.

Strangely though not surprisingly this same group expressed not one bit of outrage over it in that particular instance.

I did and it came across as circular logic. If Morey was uniformed about standing up for Hong Kong against a strong armed police state, then what would the NBA players have to worry about? I agree...LeBron has done much to speak up about issues faced in our country by African-Americans, in this case money was talking.

Now, if the NBA is going to stick to the story that players may have felt unsafe, the next step is obvious. China has crossed a line even money should be of no factor.

Haha, yeah, right.
