Nats have now won 17 of their last 20 games.

They knocked the Phillies out, they knocked the Indians out, they knocked the Brewers out, they knocked the Dodgers out, they knocked the Cardinals out.

I see a trend

I told cardinal fans that they would better off facing the Dodgers. No one believed me.

Sens are no joke . Sad to realize how far apart the Cubs are from them now . Didn’t the Cub have some sort of 1 run over 3 games against them in the playoffs too and still won the series ?

God the Dodgers just couldn't finish the fucking job and kill the fucking Nationals.

Now they'll win the pennant.

Hopefully the Astros or Yankees demolish them but they have the special feel about them.

5 walks by Cole, 2 to Torres. Smith prolly thinking he should've gone ahead and walked Torres too. Good to see teams, at least Nats and Astros, sticking with their starters more this post-season instead of turning things over to the bp early.

Exactly. I thought they might pull him after six, since he was at about 100 pitches.

Cards finally put up a crooked #. Probably get Scherzer in one of the last 2 innings.

And good thing, too. Keeps the starting pitching from that 2005 ALCS looking special.

If the Astros could finish the Yankees by Thursday, we'd get some combination of Scherzer/Strasburg vs Verlander/Cole in games 1 and 2 of the World Series. ALCS goes back to Houston, then with Verlander pitching Saturday he wouldn't be avail to pitch again til Game 3 of the Series. Cole if there's a game 7, same thing. Assuming Astros make it through.

If the Astros win, I'm looking forward to the greatest Series since 1991.

Except 2005 of course.

2005.

And 2020!

Teams that sweep the LCS are 1-7 in the World Series, since the LCS expanded to best of 7 in '85.

1995 Braves swept the Reds on their way to beating Cleveland 4-2 in the WS.

All the other LCS best of 7 sweepers lost in the World Series. However, the eventual world series losers who swept their LCS were also, arguably, usually more dependent on their bats than their arms:

A's 2x 88, 90
Tigers 2x 2006, 2012
Rockies 2007
Royals 2014
Mets 2015

2015 Mets and 2012 Tigers prolly had the best pitching among those? Don't recall exactly.

Makes sense that hitters would find the lay-off more disruptive.

Nationals earned this sweep behind their starting pitching.

A's had good pitching. Welch, Stewart, Mike Moore, obviously Eckersly as a closer. Maybe Storm Davis. Welch was good, but great in 90.

But they had truly great hitting, without a doubt. And got swept.

And LaRussa was the manager of those A's teams that swept the LCS and then lost the WS. Wonder if in 2006 that's why LaRussa rode Anthony Freaking Reyes for 8 innings in Game 1 against Detroit. Cards were coming off winning Game 7 against the Mets; Detroit had swept the A's in the ALCS. Tiger bats were so dead they made Reyes and his approaching 6 regular season ERA look like a Cy Young candidate.

As if anyone really needed it, but just one more reason to hate the Nationals.
