Teddy G. writing again about the Mike North situation...

Monday is an 'off' day for Mike North
WSCR's North quieted amid stalled talks

Monday's edition of "The Mike North Morning Show" will not feature Mike North.

North told the Tribune on Sunday: "I'm taking tomorrow off, and after that I'm not sure. It's just a cooling-off period, in my opinion."

North's contract at WSCR-AM 670 expires July 1, so this appears to be a negotiating ploy.

The Score's Dan Bernstein was off the air for about two weeks in 2004 before he re-signed with the station. Terry Boers did the same in 2003, telling listeners, "I might not be back" before returning with a new deal.

But this case could be different. After being asked whether he was seeking leverage in negotiations, North seemed to confirm that but also said: "As far as I'm concerned, they basically want me to take some time off."

Asked whether that means he had been suspended, North declined to elaborate.

WSCR general manager Paul Agase did not return calls seeking comment.

North has said that CBS Radio wants him to return as the Score's morning host. But he apparently is unsatisfied with management's offer and has had discussions with numerous outlets in Chicago, including WLS-AM 890.

The Score's tandem of Mike Mulligan and Brian Hanley, normally heard 10 a.m. to noon, is expected to fill in while North is away.

If Mulligan and Hanley are filling in, what becomes of Fred, Jen and Webber?

If they do really well, perhaps North never returns to the Mike North Morning Show? Wouldn't that be the ultimate kick in the pants?

Please tell me you don't believe he is "taking the day off". North pulled his tirade down from NorthtoNorth because he knew he went overboard. But this time it looks like he burned one to many bridges. This is over folks. Mike North is gone from the Score. The only thing that will change is if big mouth caves in and takes their deal instead of the crap they are offering at WLS. We will see what North is made of. Good chance he caves, I guess. because we know what he is made of. If not, and he is gone for good, we will finally have a good old-fashioned sports talk show back on the Score again. Good riddance and welcome to M&H in the morning drive slot. You guys deserve it.

I don't think he's leaving the Score, but if he were to leave for WLS, what opening is there ? Rush and Hannity get good ratings, Don and Roma have been there for awhile, and the afternoon drive is in good shape.

He will not be in that slot again. No way he comes back to say goodbye and why would they put M + H on to "fill in" when they use to fill in with just Fred or someone else not from a regular show. This is it. Maybe another time slot but this is a complete slap in the face and much deserved after he embarrassed the station last week.

Your new Morning Hosts-

MULLEY AND HANLEY.

Bigfan should erase North from the Board names now.

HE GONE!

Wow. Well, I'll be listening this morning for the first time in forever.

You can tell by North's comments to the Trib that he's taken a back.

"Cooling off period in my opinion." What does that mean Pappy? Why would the Score need to cool off. You're the out of control desperate ass hole. Sounds like Pappy is trying to convince himself it's just a "cooling off" period.

I'm sure this is a suspension.

Good for the Score. This ass hole does nothing but bitch and criticize his bosses and they have taken it from him for years.

Now they should just say to him "Deals off the table Mike. Good luck at WLS."

Mike will start to cry and say "Dare was no WLS deal. I'ze was tryin to bluff youse. Please. Please. Take meeze back."

I said a long time ago that Pappy had no leverage in this. He'd have to take whatever they would offer. Take the offer away from him.

So if Mully and Hanley are doing 6-10 this week does that mean Murph goes 4 hours for the week too? Or will they get one of the scrubs to do 10-12?

My guess is Murph finally gets to fit four hours into a four-hour show. Probably better than Larry or the Bear Whisperer.

Yeah. No Larry please. Give Mully and Hanley 4 hours and Murph 4 hours.

Poor Jen Jen. That spell she had over North won't apply with Mully and Hanley.

Mully - Jen, get me the box scores from yesterdays games.

Jen - What? You're not the boss of me. I want Pappy back. I didn't have to do shit. Plus, I have to read the news.

Mully - We're not doing the news anymore.

Hmmm. They told Fred to fuck off too. Zach is whispering the update in a disturbingly serious tone right now. What did Fred do?

I wonder if Jen and Rock are there. Is this a total Team Pappy removal?

They're not even playing Pappy's opening. It's a Mully and Hanley opening.

Mully said they're going until NOON.

6 hours of Mully and Hanley. Jeez. You could have made Murph do 4 hours.

Six hours of talking sports. Damn.

Makes sense that it would be. Mully and Hanley probably want to use their own producers.

The email came from Joe Ostrowski so I assume Jen and Rock are taking the day off.

1. I guess North can talk to the Tribune's Worst Guy Ever when he still needs it

2. Not sure why a COOLING OFF is needed when they want you back and the money doesn't matter? all facts provided provided by Morning Genius

Wow, we are actually getting sports in the morning on WSCR. Great move by Score management. There is no sign of the North show except Mully's tip of the hat that they are "filling in" for the Mike North morning show. No Fred, No Jen, and no big mouth flappin' Pappy. I'm guessing that once Mully and Hanley are officially given the morning show and are no longer filling in they will just do 6-10. Then Murph may get his four hours but he'll likely get killed by Silvy and Waddle. Looks like the next quandary for management is who they put in 10-12 but moving Mully and Hanley to 6-10 is a great move. Maybe Pappy & Co. can do 10-12 for say $200K per year.

why would they hire pappy for that slot when he already gets beat by waddle and silvy ?

I was being facetious. I don't want Pappy to ever be heard on radio again. He is terrible. What I really meant was that while Murph gets good numbers at 12-2 his competition there is nothing. Mully & Hanley posted huge numbers against Silvy and Waddle. Who else does the Score have that can do that? That is why these guys now have 6-10 but the bench is pretty shallow after that.

I suspect, Murph, in a 4-hour show, can slap Silvy and Waddle fine.

I also think that the last week of the North show would be too much for Mike to handle without going deep into paranoia and weirdness. For all we know, he's over at NYC looking into the Mike & Mad Dog situation.

I have no doubt that this was one of the six stations North hinted at. The worst thing to happen to North was WFAN's interest in he and Jiggs about 10 years back. Although the Monsters turned them down, I think that got the wheels turning in North's head about a solo act and syndication.
