NBA star LeBron James reportedly pressured the NBA to punish the Rockets’ General Manager Daryl Morey after he tweeted support for Hong Kong.

James argued that if something an NBA player tweeted had cost the league money they would have been punished, and questioned why the same wasn’t happening to Morey, according to Dave McMenamin on ESPN.

“Nearly a week ago today, in a Shanghai hotel room, or Shanghai hotel ballroom, Adam Silver got up and addressed the players, and LeBron James is one of the players who got up and spoke and said, ‘Hey, what are we doing here? Daryl Morey made these statements,'” McMenamin recalled on air Tuesday. “You know damn well if a player made the same statements and caused such poor ramifications for the league, there would be some sort of league recourse.”

“There would be repercussions the player has to pay. You know, potentially this tweet could cost the NBA hundreds of millions of dollars. That could come out of the players’ pockets, and so that’s the double standard that was being addressed in that meeting,” he continued.

The comments by James were made during a players meeting on Oct. 9 before the Lakers vs. Nets game in Shanghai, according to a report published by The Athletic.
Just like Kaepernick cost the NFL money.

And he was cut from the league because of it.

Only those with proper levels of concern for the league may comment on the NBA otherwise you are an irrational woman.

Only the Chinese government can comment on what’s going on in Hong Kong.

Yes because at the end of the day the NFL is a business and if something negatively impacts business then it needs to be addressed.

I have never really weighed in on Kaepernick because i understood both his and the league's position on it.

Its why i continue to reference the NBA's dress code policy. An argument can be made that its discriminatory and displays cultural bias but if the style of dress adversely effected business then it needed to be addressed. I always understood that.

Just like i understand the Kaepernick decision. You cannot reform the thinking of the NFL or the NBA without first reforming the thinking of the country.

I was comparing LeBrons thoughts on Morey and Kaepernick.

You asked for my opinion and then followed up by telling me what Lebron thinks. I don't care what he thinks about Kaepernick.
My thoughts on Kaepernick differ.

And if he advocated for the firing of Morey (which punishment doesn't denote) then they aren't the same anyway.

Funny shit. Typical spoiled jock wanting to play the victim card with the NBA being unfair in the allocation of their "justice".
Doesn't care nothing about anyone but himself and his faux "causes". Screw Lay BRAWN and his fake concern for human rights

I dunno, he has some valid points. Morey's the one that backed down. If he had any balls he'd tell his owner to go fuck himself and double down on the China bashing.

That's a weird piece to link after saying that. Outside of seemingly misunderstanding how the revenue is split in the NBA, there's nothing really wrong with that article. Certainly nothing coming close to reprehensible.

I found it interesting that a tweet by an American supporting Democracy is described as "keyboard activism". Morey has been the only smart one in this story. He kept quiet, took down the tweet, and avoided stepping all over himself trying to explain and appease everyone like Silver and LeBron.

That article is pure trash. The owners owe the player more money no matter what! Morey needs to be punished for re-tweeting something supporting Hong Kong. It's reprehensible bullshit. NBA players are just as complicit in the Chinese money as the owners, and the players are the ones who pushed out the idea that the league needs to be taking a stand on social justice.

I'm not sure what else you can call it considering the amount of effort it took to tweet it and then Morey's actions following tweeting it. That's a perfect description.

Yeah I already said he didn't seem to understand how the revenue is split in the NBA. Nothing else in the article was inaccurate and it's laughable to suggest anything in the article comes close to meeting the definition of reprehensible.

I guess I would call it a pretty straight-forward tweet supporting democracy - something no American should have to apologize for or have to further explain.

I agree with you, the article asks valid questions about Morey & mgmt..

JORR just has a curious, deep hatred of Zirin. A derangement syndrome if you will

Do you think it's fair to ask an American why they deleted a tweet in support of democracy?

And that his bosses slapped him down and muzzled him but left their players in the middle of this mess speaks volumes to their lack of sight.
