I have no problem with the trades. I think we view them as steals but I don't think the trading partners view it that way.

That said they aren't going to win the World Series with this core and probably wont even come close. The trades were good but the rebuild fell flat due to terrible drafting and even worse Intl free agency (aside from Robert, but he doesn't really count). The one guy they did miraculously find they dealt for James Shields.

Its a half finished job. They got a lot of frontline super quality talent but in the end they feel one man short even in that department. Where they have really failed is in developing anyone who can step in at RF, the bullpen or starting rotation. You would think four years of massive draft pools and selling off anyone and everyone they'd be two or three deep at most positions with guys that are at least intriguing, but they aren't. Basically the only players they've developed are ludicrously talented studs like Moncada or Giolito that by sheer god-given ability have found big time major league success. Everyone else has been an outright failure or got dealt away.

All the OF prospects other than Robert are busting. Steele Walker is a possible but he's at minimum 2 years away. Going to have to buy one. Relatively certain they pick up an above average starter this off season. I still see no reason why they can't be a legit contender in 2021. Not with the pool of money they have to spend. We've had nice surprises in Anderson and McCann.

There was some frustration by Nationals fans earlier this year about the Eaton one. That's all gone now. Even bad trades look good when you've got World Series euphoria.

Those trades don't make up for giving away Tatis and Semien. If Semien was in N.Y. and Torres in Oakland the national media would be talking about how great Semien is.

Well, Semien isn't radically different than Anderson. Yeah, he hit 30 homers this year with the juiced ball, but I'll say over their careers they two guys show similar power with Semien maybe having just slightly more. And I'm not sure you really want either guy playing short.

But if you liked a guy enough to draft him twice, maybe you shouldn't give him away for Jeff Samardzija.

I don't have any problem with the trades either although I hated when they traded away Q and Sale. But now seeing the great players that they got in return, who can bitch (PATRIOT?) What a stupid insertion to a legitimate word!! about the trades? People say that the best trades are ones that help both teams because both teams feel good about themselves. I'd say that the Sox trades mentioned were good illustrative of that.

Sale trade was dumb and didn't need to happen when it did.

Eaton trade ended up being good for everyone.

Nah, Yoan Moncada looks like the real deal. I hated the Sale trade from the instant they made it but even now I have to be impressed at how well Moncada has refined his game. If they get anything good out of Kopech it'll be hard to not like that trade.

I guess you're right but for me, you cant really argue against getting Moncada and not getting Machado. Those are two moves that looked bad when they happened and look great now.

What's fucked this rebuild up is horrible drafting, one inexplicably dumb trade for James Shields and ignoring international free agency.

He has, and that helps for sure.

The Sox still rushed that deal.

Sale's trade was sure not dumb looking back at it. Right now, I'd say that he is AT LEAST as valuable as the injured Sale. And if this 100 MPH Kopech guy comes through, it will be a big trade in favor of the White Sox.

Look Boston got their title so they're not crying about it at all, but right now Yoan Moncada is worth many times as much as Chris Sale.

I agree with you about the title part, but I don't know if Moncada is worth "many times as much as Chris Sale." He put up somewhere around twice the WAR this year, but Sale was also hurt for a substantial portion of the season. Also, while I'm fervently hoping that Moncada has turned a corner, I would be surprised, but not shocked, if he regressed next year. On the other hand a hurt and old Sale is still pretty good.

Sale might be cooked and he's in the second year of a six year $160 million contract.

Did Sale have surgery? And if so, what kind? Thanks.

No surgery. Still in rehab. They do not know how well it is going as of yet. But he had a tough year last year.

He's a guy. They've got the second best, maybe even the best player in baseball. I'm not really talking about Adam Eaton, but I'm glad he found a fit where he isn't hated.

He’s a pretty good guy. It’d be nice if the Sox had more good guys and didn’t have to trade them once they became good guys.

Stop it. He is more than just a guy.

They don't win Game 6 without him, which means they don't win the World Series without him.

I don't know why Sox fans fall for the same thing every time when management turns on its star players. Haven't we learned that it is the management who should be presumed wrong?

He's a good player. He is a little more than "just a guy" but he is not a star either. Few casual fans outside of Washington and Chicago knew who Adam Eaton was before these playoffs.

I'm certainly not lamenting the loss of Adam Eaton as a Sox fan. He's a smarmy, unlikable bastard, but I don't hate him nor did I root for or against him. He was just there. I'm happy he got a WS ring. Hopefully Giolito and Lopez lead the Sox to the promised land soon.

No he is not a star. He is a good starting level player on a good team.

I found him very likeable as a player here from a fan's perspective. He always seemed responsive to fans. I think for other players he was like that Dirty 30 piece of shit but Eaton actually backed up his rah, rah style with production

Really? You think Adam Eaton is a star? He's a corner outfielder without power. He looks better than he is because the current crop of outfielders is worse than at any time probably in baseball history.

I'm certainly not crying because the Sox traded him for a top of the rotation starter plus another useful pitcher and another guy we haven't seen yet.

Not so sure about that. He was runner up for rookie of the year as a teenager last season and hit 30some bombs this year.

Eaton is somewhere in the middle of "star" and "just a guy". He's a good hitter who delivered in the post-season. Still...there's quite a few more important hitters in that lineup in front of Eaton.

Eaton is a better version of Pierzynski and Sox fans LOVE him so I don’t see why Eaton gets a bad rap for being the same thing .
