Tonight I noticed that i got an email from Godaddy.com (proud proud former sponsors of Danica Patrick in NASCAR) that had my receipt for the domain name I purchased this morning. The funny thing is that I didn't buy a domain name this morning (at 5:33 no less) so I assume it's some kind of scam where someone spoofed godaddy info to try and phish for my password or something...

But that tech support # is legit. Maybe that customer # isn't? NOPE that's legit too. On the phone they want a PIN # which I don't have, just like I don't have the password for the account... But hey they put in my e-mail addy so I can reset the password and get in. Cha-ching!

So the domain they bought is [my last name]life.com and they paid for it in a VISA ending in #### and that's all I can tell. I get on the blower with godaddy and they can't do anything useful like tell me the IP address of whoever signed up/paid for this account (where I might add they got me two years of this domain, no web hosting tho!) BUT after holding for another 3-5mins they can tell me.something I don't know... That this was paid for using a VISA ending in #### in my name @ my old address (just like the account/domain is registered to me @ my old address with my old landline phone # for the domain's contact info)

Sooooo what would you do if this happened to you? I've started to effort trying to find out if there's a VISA card in my name (a real pain in the gulliver, as it turns out), but I doubt it. More than likely someone is using a prepaid VISA card or even their own credit card and just claiming my info outside of the actual card# itself) and well, I reckon I've shot myself in the foot by changing the go daddy pw and not waiting to see if someone was actually gonna set up a.proper website @ thatdomain.com after getting the DNS situation all set up.

At the very least I've got a kinda-interesting story of the likes that even a 5yr vet of godaddy phone tech support hadn't heard of b4 I called up tonight.

But yeah, would this kind of shit freak you out or what would you do in response to it? Or would you just =) like hey I've got a fan club out there and they're willing to put their money where their mouth is?!!!

either way, c'est la vie as the French in France would say! Take care / give hell / be excellent

I would wait and see if the website gets up and running and then have it shut down by any means necessary. Who knows what they are going to use the website for.

Honestly, I've gotten a couple of voice mails entirely in Chinese and or the same computer generated voice.

I wonder if the Chinese ones are supposed to be threatening as well? I ain't THAT old
