The bookbag was probably given/donated to him by someone. The 2 things that i'd be interested in knowing is

1. What caused him to flee originally.

2. Why didn't he just simply tell them that it was powdered milk if he knew that it was powdered milk.

You'd really be surprised at what makes some defendants so desperate to plea out. Once I had a guy who couldn't make bail just prefer Statesville over the County. Of course that when a year meant 91 days.

Shouldn't have pled guilty to a crime he didn't commit. Either way he's out, so this whole thing seems pretty open-and-shut.

Thats my point. Don't run initially if you know you don't have a reason to and don't cop a plea if you know that its powdered milk (instead of cocaine) that you're carrying.

Cops in Oklahoma can't afford real drugs to plant on people.

I had an internship with the circuit court many years ago and saw a lot of people take pleas for things that it sounded like they had zero chance to get convicted of. Most were first offenses.

I didn't know that you did criminal law.

Got identified as the defendants in open court by CPD cops twice. Once during a bench trial based almost entirely on eyewitness testimony.

Funny thing is that my client there got pissed with me when his trial kept getting delayed by the judge.

We had to have a heart to heart talk once where I explained that I had no problem taking his case immediately to trial in Bridgeview with another judge. And leave the one judge who came to court wearing African clothing, and who had a portrait of Dr. King behind the bench.

If he was an actual criminal, his referrals would have paid for college for my kids.

I think a lot of people are scared shitless of cops, not because they are cowards, but because they know that the cops have the power to temporarily exert their will. Even if you are innocent, you still get stuck in jail for a few months.

States are moving away from cash-bail toward more sensible risk-assessment systems. California actually passed a bill to abolish all cash bail last year. But the bail bond industry pushed back and managed to get it pushed to a referendum on the issue on the 2020 ballot.

The whole article raises more questions than answers.

1. Why was he was pulled over while on his bike?
2. Why was he carrying just 1.5 ounces of powdered milk? That's not even enough to make one cup.
3. Why did he flee if he knew he had powdered milk and not cocaine? Is he mentally ill, or did he believe he also had something illegal aside from the milk?
4. Why did the cops say it was cocaine prior to testing? What is their penalty for falsely claiming cocaine?
5. Why would an innocent person plead guilty to a crime with a 15 year sentence?

I disagree with this. You never want to give them a reason to think you are doing something illegal. When you run that gives them a reason to believe that you have done something illegal.

I used to date his cousin (know you're happy for me). When i found out that she had the same last name as Ron Leflore i cracked a joke about her possibly being a relative of his. To my surprise she was like "that's my cousin". Her next words were "He used to be in jail". Never said anything about him playing Pro Baseball. Thats how i knew that she wasn't lying.

He was released after a plea withdrawal. And he was sentenced 15 years for pleading guilty to drug charges. If he didn't think it was cocaine, don't plead guilty.
