Can't believe it's 5 years already, Doug. Congrats!

This office is a ghost town today. I've answered one email so far, thats it. On the bright side, got a new shirt, a vendor brought it some sweet rolls, and the employee wifi has been "fixed" so I can stream music/videos from my phone during slow times like today without killing my data!

Congrats, doug.

After 5 years, the difficult part is over. It's all downhill from there.

Those phrases don't seem to match up.

my daughter has decided to seek an accounting internship for the Winter semester and make up the classes over the summer. She applied for ten, got seven interviews and three offers so far. She has accepted the offer from her number one choice, which will allow her to stay in a dorm room while she works the tax season.

This officially makes us empty nesters as of January.

Boy, did that happen fast. Cats in the Cradle, for sure.

Congrats! That’s exciting. We will be in that position summer of 2021.

It will seem like six weeks from now, and Frank will as well.

I'll be playing a dozen songs or so with my old man at the American Legion hall in Worth tomorrow night. Off of 111th & Harlem, 8pm-11pm. Swing by if your in the area and let me buy ya a drink. Typical dive place, but the people are friendly and $15 or $20 can you get smashed.

My son got his first acceptance from the University of Iowa. He has no intention of attending. It was more of a trial run for submitting applications correctly. Even knowing this, I still felt a little proud...and old. Following in the footsteps of Harry Bailey.

Common app? As easy as common app is, the whole process is still kind of a pain.

I assume so. I didn't submit. I'm our expert on essays. Working on those is sufficiently difficult. November 1 and then 15 are big deadlines for my areas of oversight.

I still think it is cool. There are a lot of people who would be thrilled to get in and go there.

We did the same thing with both of my kids. One is in her first year at college and the other is a senior in high school. There were a few Big Ten schools that we had no intention of them enrolling in. But they applied anyway.

With common app it is a lot easier to apply. My son apparently picked U of TN, which I had no clue. He showed me the acceptance letter, and I said “why”. I guess it has the sports management program he wants.....

How involved are you...I'm trying to let my son do the essays himself without any intervention but trying to give him advice on the topics is tricky. One of the Notre Dame choices is "Defend an unpopular opinion you hold." I think he picked a bad opinion, but the ones I suggested would sound like they came from an adult and not a teenager.

I was surprised at how short they are supposed to be...only 150-200 words.

I let my children do the entire essays themselves. I only corrected obvious mistakes. I wanted the essays to sound authentic.

I know I bombed my ND essay. I really needed a word processor.....they probably laughed when they read it in my poor handwriting. Welp UIUC it is!

I'm an editor and a task master

I wrote the one to Catholic University of America because I started out there so I had some intimate knowledge of the place but he is getting in there even if he wrote a poor essay.

We are a no, ND house.

I received a unique request post appolication from Holy Cross asking for a parent recommendation. Do you think they would consider it blasphemous if I only wrote "This is my beloved son, on whom my favor rests"?

After selling our house 3 weeks ago and living in hotels and having my SUV packed with all kinds of shit we finally close on the new place tomorrow morning and start the moving in process. Thankful that the weather looks relatively dry for Saturday morning when we have the professionals moving the larger stuff we can’t do safely on our own. We’ve been in the same room for the past two weeks and I’ve had about enough of it
