Sure, Nagy can call more runs. That might help. But if he is calling plays where guys are getting open and Mitch either isn't throwing to them or physically can't throw to them, how is that on Nagy?

I think this is being overstated a little bit. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has missed some passes that better quarterbacks would have hit but it's not like this offense is dominating the defense. Robinson is the only one who seems to be performing well and (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky can get him the ball.

I'm not so sure. That game Sunday completely changes if (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is able to make a relatively simply throw and an open Anthony Miller. Its would have been a big gain on 3rd down at worst, or a touchdown at best.

There was also a play in the first half on Sunday where Miller was open in the flat for a modest gain, Robinson was open over the middle, granted it would have been a throw back across the field, but still Mitch had two guys open. He retreats and takes a sack. The worst that should have happened on that play was the ball gets thrown away. A good QB throws to Miller to get at least some sort of positive yardage.

Same with missing Taylor Gabriel on the first drive of the game. Maybe Mitch hits that pass and that helps get the offense into a rhythm. Maybe hitting that 3rd down pass opens up the run game a little more. Maybe most if not all of the offensive issues this team faces is because of poor QB play.

Nagy is the Head Coach and the one calling plays. He is the one that decides if they run the ball 7 times or 30 times, not Mitch. The Bears were down by 2 pts at half-time....not 21 points.

Nagy. Sucks. yes...Mitch sucks, as well, but that's a different thread. Mitch has no responsibility for the team only making 7 rushing attempts. If anything....Mitch's suckiness should further ENSURE the Bears rush the ball more than 7 times.

Absolutely not true. As I pointed out, the game changes if Mitch hits Miller in stride earlier in the game. That likely either goes for a TD or sets up a Bears TD. Completely changes the game and has the Bears much closer in terms of the score where they don't have to pass all the time.

Better play from the quarterback opens up more of the run game.

There was a play where he had Cohen wide open, no one within 10 yards or more of him and mitch is apparently staring him down while being chased, cohen is waving his arms like crazy and mitch finally throws it but puts in 5 yards short and out of bounds.
It's like he freezes up and can't pull the trigger almost.

He is not an NFL quarterback.

I agree but those plays are so important because everything else is so ineffective. The really good to great NFL offenses aren't defined by one play going good or bad. It's pretty clear that on most plays the offense is putting itself in a position to get a good gain on the defense.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky certainly had some poorly timed bad throws. That's why it may be a good idea to let him get comfortable with a few designed runs though the shoulder issue may have taken that out of the gameplan.

We're not going to get better play from the Quarterback because....MITCH. SUCKS.
Since your QB sucks....it's up to the head coach / play caller to call plays that do not rely on a bad QB making throws he clearly cannot make.

Mitch should be treated as if he was Trent Dilfer or Kyle Orton. Nagy just can't bring himself to doing that because....he is a bad head coach.

I wonder if we are ever going to find out if Mitch not running this year was a Mitch or Nagy call. Either way, it's dumb as hell.

I agree with this overall. But I'm sure even the Rodgers, Bradys, Favres, and Lucks of the world have played in games where one or two plays early on completely changes the complexion of the game.

Look, I'm not saying that the Bears blowout the Saints or even win had Mitch made that pass to Miller. But don't you think that the game has at least a good chance to shake out differently with the Bears up 17-12 at halftime?

I think it has to be a Nagy call. Why wouldn't (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky want to run? It's clearly the thing he is best at.

Nagy wouldn't rip him publicly. He's more Maddon in his approach. Closest you'll see is when he told him to shut the fuck up.

I'm sure, though those guys have built up enough trust on their team that even if they miss it the rest of the offense assumes they will make up for it. The play you are describing may have been demoralizing because the performance of (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky doesn't give you confidence that he will figure it out.

He is the one guy who can change that scenario. As Mac said yesterday, "We're now beginning to see why Kareem Hunt didn't get a 2nd half carry in that playoff game"

I know (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky had a hurt shoulder in the last game but how about we let him run a little more if his passing has regressed?

It makes me wonder if Nagy went into this season wanting to show that (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky isn't the quarterback for his system.

He should have allowed him to be an athlete. That was working last year. He averaged over 30 yards a game rushing. His rushing opened up his passing. He should have allowed him to be a Russell Wilson and Lamar Jackson type of quarterback.

I don't think we have enough info yet to determine if Nagy sucks. Things do not look good right now, but I think he needs more time.

Mitch is a different story.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky faces a ton of zone because of his inability to read defenses. This, his fear of being hit, and his horrible footwork and mechanics make a miracle necessary in order to salvage his Bears career.

Belichick will pick Mitch up for a 7th rounder and win 3 SBs with him when Brady retires.

I think we'll know with Nagy by Thanksgiving. If the Bears are still in this losing streak (or have gone like 1-6), and the offense has the same problems, or it looks like the team is giving up, he's gotta go.

Nagy's inability to adapt to his reality hurts the Bears offense. He wants to force every player to adjust their game to the way he wants to run his offense instead of adjusting his offense to his players.

Which Pace will then use to trade up and take another bust offensive player.

Definitely Nah-Gee's largest flaw. You see all the good ones like Belichek, Reich, Payton, Tomlin, adapt and thrive. The stubborn busters like McCarthy are sitting at home.

This is certainly a possibility but again..I don't care how bad your QB is....7 rushing attempts total with only 5 of them by Running Backs....that's solely on the Head coach. There's no way he can talk his way out of that.

FavreFan wrote:

Absolutely....here's the difference. Belichick would have plays drawn up where there are no check downs or options. Plays would be dictated by his knowledge of defenses that he'd know which receivers would be open when.
1. Pass....to receiver XX after X seconds.
2. RB Hand-off
3. RB-Hand-off
(first down)
1. RB hand-off
(first down)
1. Pass. to this receiver XX......TOUCHDOWN
