all this proves is that Theo doesn't value the manager much in terms of wins / losses. He's not necessarilty. The failure of the last 2 seasons is clearly on the roster construction, not the manager.

If the team has 5 starters and legit 8th, 9th inning pitchers....Maddon, Girardi, Ross, and any other manager look like geniuses.

I've listened to him since last year's September collapse, and I feel he thinks his roster is just fine. I think he feels that an attitude adjustment is required. His team is not "being their best selves". The proof of that will be the changes made to the roster. I predict the changes will all be on the edges.

Last year Alex Cora ( huge players manager ) wins World Series . This year Red Sox miss playoffs because their pitching sucks . I think they need Joe Girardi to come in and clean up Dodge City . It’s obvious he was way too lax the players this year

This is nothing more than a way for Theo to cover his ass if it fails (which it will).

Ross is a front office guy, meaning he's also a Ricketts guy. If it fails, it's not all Theo's fault, as Ricketts is behind the hire.

If Theo were to hire an outisde guy and it failed, it would be another strike against Theo and he would then be on the hot seat.

Also, this is another excuse for Theo to stay loyal to this core of players. They wont be trading anyone other than somebody like Russell, just to make it look like "changes are being made". But this is about Theo not disrupting the core.

The Marlins really have one consistent power hitter and it's Anderson. The only one. And he leaves Hendricks out there against him after the first 2 guys get on.

Corey Dickerson has been a power hitter his whole career. Poor thought Elmhurst Steve.

It's likely that with Wick out, Ross was trying to conserve his only decent everyday reliever, and to do that he needed both Hendricks and Darvish to go 7 full both days.

But why the hell do you have Mills and Quintana on a playoff roster if you aren't going to have one of them start the 7th and 8th, and have the other one ready to pitch extra innings if needed.
