Bad. Ross will be a yes man to Theo's bad decisions. Should have hired Espada

Quit being meatballs worried about the manager. With a decent bullpen even this year's flawed team would have won this division.

The other thread was a parody dumbfuck. We do it for all potential Chicago managers.

A lot of people mocked JORR for his "managers don't matter" stance when Maddon was hired. The Cubs just hired a guy who to the best of my knowledge has never done a day of work in a clubhouse outside of being a player.

So, was JORR right?

Didn’t have to go far, as Bob was offering opposing views right in this thread.

Team lacked leadership at any level last year, guess they think bringing in a manager who was a good leader as a player will resonate with the team? Will Theo move a core player or two and radically try to reshape the roster or does he think Ross will be able to win with the same group?

Cubs are settling the grievance KB filed this week so that his two years of club control are confirmed, as they need that done in order to establish his trade value.

2 angles here:

1) This is nothing more than a way for Theo to cover his ass if it fails (which it will).

Ross is a front office guy, meaning he's also a Ricketts guy. If it fails, it's not all Theo's fault, as Ricketts is behind the hire.

If Theo were to hire an outisde guy and it failed, it would be another strike against Theo and he would then be on the hot seat.

2) Also, this is another excuse for Theo to stay loyal to this core of players. They wont be trading anyone other than somebody like Russell, just to make it look like "changes are being made". But this is about Theo not disrupting the core.

Sorry, worst hire ever. It's exasperatingly stupid.

You give up the guy that won the World Series for a guy who has never managed.

All 4 Championship Series team managers had a combined 1 year of managerial experience before being hired by their current teams.

What they did have experience doing was front office work, broadcast booth work and they all played for or worked with Hall of Fame managers earlier in their careers.

Managerial experience is overrated.

Do you know the game? Can you balance analytics and on-the-fly game decisions? Do you have respect of the players? Do you understand a pitching staff?

Recipe for success if you can answer yes to all those.

It wasn't just managerial experience with Joe, but also charisma. He commanded your attention, and I'm sure he did also with his players.

Sounds like Girardi wasn't interested.

Also sounds like managers don't matter.

I think Ross is pretty much known for his leadership and charisma.

However, newly-hired managers frequently lack MLB managing experience nowadays, so it's not remarkable that the four LCS managers are of that ilk.

Right, because managerial experience has been proven to be unimportant.

Look on the brightside. If Ross is good, you will love him. If Ross ends up being trash, you will be alright with that too.

Cubs.com / MLB.com shop has removed the 'former player' discount from all the David Ross shirts and jerseys! Shrewd business move.

Ross will be a good hire, old rules that never made any sense ( gotta manage in the minors for years, rookie QBs need to ride the bench) that shit is over with.

The stone pony was on with M & P and he said mostly yes men are being hired now. I'd of liked to see what would of happened if a Joe Girardi type was hired instead of Joe at the beginning of the Cubs run. Somebody who held players accountable, kicked em in the ass when needed, and managed more conventionally. Joe won one world series but it could have been more.

Cub fans might believe that, but it really couldn't have been. In fact, they were lucky to even get that one.

The two other times they reached the NLCS they got smoked. That wasn't on Maddon.
