Either or, mates.
Are you a Nightmare on Elm Street guy or a Friday the 13th guy?

Personally I'm a Nightmare guy. Freddy to me is much more compelling. He attacks you in your sleep.
But... Freddy became a campy bullshit wisecracking ass hat. Jason and his mom were just pure homicidal maniacs. I admire that.

What say you?

More of a Friday the 13th guy, especially with the first couple movies.

After that, it became cheesy. And if you're gonna make a cheesy horror movie, it helps to have a wisecracking killer.

Pass on the lot of it.

Nightmare. More gory deaths, but some great one-liners.

I wouldn't know...but you seemed to enjoy it. So I will take your word for it.

Neither. I was a Halloween guy when I watched that stuff 35-40 years ago.

different eras

Friday the 13th and Halloween both seem to be more related to the 70s. The teen characters were flat and the horror was in the killer being unstoppable. They seemed almost like warnings to teens from parents as giving in to the urges of youth lead to death

Nightmare was pure 80s and dealt with a lot more issues of what the teenagers were facing. It was more nihilistic in that everyone was going to die, from the nerd to bmoc. Even Freddie's origin story was grittier.

Nightmare. After both became completely absurd, Freddy quips made his kills much more entertaining.

They should have stopped with whichever Friday had one of the Coreys in it.

Cmon the first Friday was even more absurd than nightmare. Jason’s mom was stringing up young men twice her weight and throwing them through windows? Jason just decided to never come back to his mom after not really drowning? You find a bloody axe in a bed and your only reaction is “wow that’s really strange”

Not that Nightmare is good but at least Craven gave some explanation for the terror as wacky as it was. Killing beyond the grave in dreams is more believable than Jason’s mom. Sorry it just is. Although it does appear she smoked a carton a day based on her skin and cancer never got her so maybe she did have super human strength?
