These shows are what Marquee should show on one weeknight all winter. Not the whole series, but like 4 episodes of White Shadow one week, 4 of Arli$$ the next, etc.

It's close but I think the Dick Butkus era was superior to the Reggie Theus era.

At the time, it was great. Sorkin working out his techniques before West Wing. Plus it had an excellent cast. Josh Charles has a punchable face and was the least likeable member of the cast that you were supposed to like. But Peter Krause before Six Feet Under, Felicity Huffman before Desperate Housewives, Robert Guillaume, and Joshua Malina.

Malina's exasperated tirade while being interviewed for a segment producer job in the pilot was Sorkin at his finest.

That said.. the show hasn't aged well. Especially after West Wing.

HBO had a football series called "1st & Ten" back in the day... mid 1980's?

It was a mashup of "Ballers", "Coach", "Semi-Tough" and "Animal House".

MANY ex-NFL'ers were in it if I remember correctly... OJ, The 'Tooz, Vince Ferragamo, etc.

Even had a younger Jason Beghe (Sgt. Voight - Chicago PD) as a QB.

I loved it. Not sure it still holds up but I was pissed it got cancelled. I also couldn’t stand that Ray Lewis of all people spoke out about what the show depicted. C’mon NFL you should not have allowed him to have a voice about that of all people at the time.
