Thanks for reminding me how many years of my life I wasted on my first marriage (facepalm).

Did you all actually want to get married or did you do it because it was the "right thing" to do?

A little of both, honestly. I can look back and say without question that I made the right choice.

I was 25 the first time. I don't think I knew what I wanted at that time.

Marriage 1: Neither.....just thought it was the normal thing to do and the next step in logical progression. I did know I wanted kids, but I drastically undervalued the spousal screening process. I also was 25...hindsight can be really expensive bitch.

Marriage 2: Also neither. I was perfectly fine being on my own and felt perfectly capable of taking care of myself. I had zero intention of getting married again. After some time passed of dating my future wife, it simply got to the point where it felt wrong / weird / silly NOT being married to her.

That pretty much describes exactly the way my two went.

Interesting. I had this conversation with 5 male friends that are married earlier this year and only 1 said he got married because he really wanted to. Every other guy had a financial reason or they were kinda pressured to do the right thing. I asked my sister and she kinda gave me some Hollywood movie crap but I took it as she felt that she was supposed to be married.

I met my wife when she was 18 and I was 19. I figure you find someone that doesn't annoy the shit out of you, you best stick with it.
