If you're looking for head coaches in any sport without narcissism, you're gonna be looking for a long time. You don't work at becoming A Leader Of Men because you're not too into yourself.

Babcock and Quenneville have widely been considered the best two coaches in the league for the past decade and change. If Tronna fires him with that giant contract on the books, the Hawks can pick him up at a nominal price while the Leafs pay the balance. If, somehow, you're presented with the choice of replacing Jeremy Colliton with either Marc Crawford or Mike Babcock, you take Babcock 11 times out of 10.

The people who bitch about Foley and Olczyk for various reasons should really just listen to Wiedeman and Murray instead, although I understand the current Hawks team not being worth the effort of syncing up the audio.

Babcock kept Detroit's playoff streak going for several years after it should have ended. Then Chris Illitch, who's to his dad like Rocky is to Bill only in reverse, got too cheap to pay him. If he fails in Toronto, well, Toronto has chewed up every coach and star player who has passed through for 50 years except maybe Sundin. I consider it sort of like how even Pat Riley couldn't win a title with the Knicks.

Agree, but at the same time you can argue Wiedeman stepped into a VERY tough situation when Foley, who was literally the only good thing about the team at the time besides the uniform, was fired by $Bill and didn't deserve to be shoved aside for the Finals when times got better.

I am worn out by the silliness of Pat and Eddie. Pat is a shell of his former self where his call was exciting. There are far too many giggles over nonsense, and “kudos” to the great camera work. The production of these games is often horrible with incorrect graphics, sound issues, and picture problems.

I like the radio guys, but John calls the game way in too much of a delay. Pay attention, and you will notice the crowd cheering a big shot or goal before John calls the play. I suspect he does that on purpose to see the play develop before calling it, but he needs to get closer to real time. It is obvious and annoying.

Hockey radio play-by-play requires a lot of verbiage to do the job. Guys are behind the call all the time out of necessity. Otherwise the play-by-play would just be x-to-y-to-z with no further description.


I try to explain this to people all the time. There are some real dogshit crews around the NHL. Columbus TV is among them, as you must be well aware. Edmonton and Washington TV are really bad as well.

Anyone with SiriusXM that catches the away games knows this. You get to hear the home telecast. These other radio broadcast teams are horrid. Hawk fans have no idea how good we have it.

I listen to Jets radio from time to time and their play-by-play guy is awful. Terrible voice, it's grating and honking at the same time. The sad part is that they had to bring him on because their old Manitoba Moose guy was even worse at keeping pace with the play than Wiedeman is.

I think the Predators brought in a TV pxp guy who was the host of the afternoon sports talk radio show and had never called hockey before.

I tried to listen to the Vancouver radio call last weekend when I was driving north of there. Absolutely horrid. Zach Zaidman would do better.

I listen to John and Troy on the Android app of the radio feed, but I don't get the TV feed so that's fine. I don't mind the delay because sometimes I'm only half listening and the crowd noise is a cue.

Anyone out there watching this game that can fill me in on what the fuck happened? I watched Vegas score a goal to go up 3 to 1....I change the station for awhile and come back and now the Hawks are up 3 to 2. How does that happen?

I was just following it on twitter. That goal was overturned at the end of the 1st I thought. DeHaan scored and then by gawd somehow Gus actually lit the lamp a minute later. Scoring 2 goals in a minute is not crazy....2 blackhawk defensemen scoring goals in a weeks worth of games though....thats crazy.

I don’t agree with this. I watch quite a few games with local announcers and I don’t notice a huge difference between telecasts. Like Denis said, way too much fooling around in the booth which is never funny. And Olchyk usually has an agenda during the telecast. He is a mouthpiece for the organization.
