How did the defense get so bad?

Seabrook got fat, Keith had a torn meniscus removed which is the Faustian bargain of joints, and Bowman traded Niklas Hjalmarsson for magic beans. Remember that the defense was bad all the way back to the 2015 Final, when it was Keith/Seabrook/Hjalmarsson/Oduya/prayers, and Stan never made it better, only worse.

I never pretend to be a hockey expert, but even I know the playoff game is drastically different from the regular season game. The 2016, 2017 one round playoff appearances clearly showcased the decline in the defense. Toews declining to 2nd line skill level didn't help either. The Hammer trade was the final nail in the coffin.
Keith is older. Seabrook got really old, slow, and bad really fast. Hammer was traded and not replaced with anythig close to his skill level. This is the 5th season since the last cup and those 2 names are still there....they've found nothing to re-stock the defense. it's kind of important.

Kirby Dach should be a nice player.

Bowen Byram was still the pick. Colorado sent him down for seasoning this season, but he could easily be playing for the Hawks right now. 14pts in 18 games as a defenseman in the whl so far. Dach has 6pts for the Hawks.

TV crews and radio crews should have different styles. I prefer the radio broadcast. But that's partially because I usually only listen to the Sunday night games and I use it to chill out and I don't want to focus on a screen when I'm going to be looking at a laptop display for the next five days.

Pat's 333 shtick has gotten old, Edzo is not great after his illness, and nobody is ever harshly criticized. I didn't like Troy at first, but he gives a balanced effort and has a little bit of Doug Buffone and Norm Van Lier in him.

Mark both as incomplete for this season. Of course, both teams have been out of the playoffs the whole time, so what does any of it matter, anyway, but lo and behold, the Hawks are worse off for having traded the most important stay-at-home defenseman on three championship teams.
