I was never a fan of the Pork & Mindy’s restaurant as it seemed like a marketing gimmick built on Jeff Mauro's celebrity name without the tasty and quality food. What i'm curious about is what Mariano's will do to replace the closed Pork & Mindy’s locations within the grocery store locations.
Quote:
Pork & Mindy’s is no more after filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Nov. 5.

Led by Chicago native Jeff Mauro, who called himself the "sandwich king," the company filed in the U.S. bankruptcy court for the Northern District of Illinois and listed liabilities between $1 to $10 million with an estimated 50 to 99 creditors.

The creative BBQ concept debuted in Bucktown in January 2016 and Mauro operated two additional restaurants in Wrigley Field and the Loop. Earlier this year, Mauro signed a deal with area grocery chain Mariano’s to open in 20 stores by the end of 2019. A few were up and running before the bankruptcy filing. Mariano's confirmed the Pork & Mindy's closures in its stores.

Mauro also told the Chicago Tribune he planned to open two more stand-alone locations in Elmwood Park and the Irving Park neighborhood. Representatives for Mauro could not be reached for comment.

I think Mariano's are just reverting back to their own proprietary grill/bbq stations.

Pork & Mindys reminds me of those God awful live reads Kap does for Chicago Cut wherein he fawns over "plate licking caramel sauce."

Never had the food but I really liked the sweet heat jarred sauce. It was my go to.

Food was terrible. Tried the one over at the Wells St. Market some time ago. Then tried the one in Wicker Park thinking it would be better and it wasn't. No one missed anything.

Many Mariano's locations already had an existing BBQ joint inside before they were all taken over by Pork & Mindy's. I actually thought they used to have decent bbq for the suburbs, but noticed a steep dip in quality over the last couple years when they changed over to the P&M's ownership. Good riddance.

I hope the employees can find work quickly in advance of the holidays. What a crap time to lose your job.

I was involved in a payday loan business with Ralph Mauro. I think they may be related. I'm not 100% sure. I've never met Jeff.

I believe he's a pretty connected guy. good dolphin can probably speak to this better than I can, but if I remember correctly when they developed Maxwell Street he was somehow able to come up with a subsidized condo or two. I think maybe Pat Daley did too. Gotta love Oscar d'Angelo. R.I.P. Anyway, I don't remember the details. It's hard to keep all the dirty deals in Chicago straight.

As an aside, if Trump loses in 2020 one of the first things I'd look for is this Lausch guy who is wreaking havoc on the Chicago Way to be shown the door. I'm sure Richie Daley is more nervous right now than he's ever been in his charmed life. It's one thing for a good neighborhood kid like Robert Sorich to be a stand up guy. When the feds start kicking these old political hacks, we may find out just who is going to roll on whom.

Finally, I just got my latest issue of Chicago Magazine in the mail. I had to laugh when I opened it up and there was a piece on Jeff Mauro's fitness regimen.

He's suburban. I think he went to OPRF. Probably too dumb to get into Ignatius, even with the clout.

St Ignatius is national.

A St. Ignatius guy I know got him set up, so we got our piece of the action. We can't guarantee success of others.

I know you meant it as a joke but that didn't go quite as you expected.

Anyway, I'm keeping the invisible hand that directs your life from turning against you but I can't keep holding them off if you continue to badmouth us

I don't believe you. However, doesn't that kind of go against the idea that it matters if they do that for "non-members"?

He lives in Elmwood Park. His kid goes to school with my wife's friend's kid. He was the celebrity emcee at a Battle of the Burgers that RedEye put on at the Chicago Historical Society in 2015. We won first place. He messaged us via twitter to congratulate us, asked if he needed reservations to dine at our place. He came in that afternoon with his wife and kid, paid for his food, posed for a picture, etc. Good guy from my experience.

He was supposed to join a group of us LTH forum guys for a dinner one time but he did not come in the end. I guess that doesn't sound right.

I was walking by his place in Wicker Park when they were building it out. I believe i saw the name of one of our esteemed board members on the zoning paperwork posted.

Oh, you mean when I thought the total cost of Catholic school would be $100k and it was actually $90k?

If I move back to Chicago can you get me a job? It sounds like you just have to know a St. Ignatius guy to get set up.
