"I'm sure you'll follow North along with some other of "dose loozers" to where ever [sic] he goes."

Please re-read my post. North wasn't always just spouting opinions that had no basis in fact, as I stated. (He also conducted great interviews, take Skiles and the Jacksons, for example.) My point was he and his show took chances, something that is punished in this PC world.

There are clever and creative "balls out" styles in radio, TV, movies, stand-up comedy, whatever. A lot of it, even when it crosses that hard-to-pin-down PC-line, is very funny. I just never found North's "balls out" style to be anything but crass, crude, and lowbrow.

In satellite radio, yes, but on "regular" radio? Please! Who are you referring to? If anyone is "balls out," they have to censor themselves or get fired.

As someone who follows this board but rarely contributes, I have to say that this made me want to post. PLEASE stop using the same tired "its all too PC" crap that people love to pull out every time their favorite Neanderthal loses his gig. This had nothing to do with PC, "thought police," or any other tired cliche.

This is simple: North got stale. His cultural references and brand of humor stopped being funny to a huge majority of the people in the 18-40 year old demographic. NO ONE protested outside the offices for his removal. They simply chose to listen to other stations, which is why Mike and Mike (and Silvy and Waddle) absolutely destroyed North on a regular basis. His listenership dropped, which means his ad price dropped, which means that the station couldn't justify his salary. They made him an offer that would allow them to continue to make money from the show, which he didn't like. Couple that with his antics over the last couple weeks, and the decision to remove him was easy.

Get over the persecution complex. This was an economic decision brought about by free market capitalism. People didn't like the product so they chose not to listen. Sounds to me like EXACTLY how the market is designed to work.

Good points all, Cary, but I'll guarantee you this: Mully and Hanley's ratings will be no better -- if they get the morning slot -- because people will be bored. Whoever gets North's slot will have to bring more fire than those two bring.

"Iiiiiii predict" that his replacement will be Dan Jiggetts. Now isn't that poetic justice for Jiggs?

Was Mike North, at many times, an idiot on the air? Hell yes! But here's the deal, as I see it: Chicago radio just become even more boring and sterile now that he is gone. (Is anyone ever able to take a joke these days? Political correctness is choking entertainment for adults into sad censorship.)

North took chances and always spoke his mind, even if he didn't know the real facts. (How many of us have done the same in our homes?) His show represented a reckless rawness that was fun and infuriating to listen to; if you don't believe this, where are the passionate e-mails about his temporary replacements, one of whom (Mulligan) really annoys with his contrived "Around the Horn-esque" shouting.

North's critics are going to miss his energy and antics.

An opnion without a fact is worthless. A mis-informed opinion is even worse. Mike went beyond that.

I already heard from Mr. Zimmerman.

"This is very good feedback for us FRONTMAN and I thank you for taking the time to send the email."

Obviously I'm not using my real name; as I don't need any of Mike's guys hunting me down.....

Mully and Hanley will do better than North. You want Jiggs back? You say he has fire. Nobody is more safe and boaring on the air than Jiggs.

Plus Jiggs doesn't know anything besides football.

Gents:

"Swami" Crown Moldy only predicted that Jiggs would get the gig, not that he brings fire.

The only time Jiggs shows "the fire and the passion" is when the intern brings him back the wrong lunch order.

Mully and Hanley will come close to M&M in the next ratings book and beat them in the one after that. Book it. So many people have been turned off of North, they'll be flooding back even if the show isn't the "edgiest" around. It's intelligent and easy to listen to in the morning. Now get me Paruch and Drinky from 10-Noon and I'm listening to the Score all day except for MJH in the afternoons.

Quote about Mully and Hanley: "easy to listen to."

Read:

Easy listening.

Bubble gum for the brain.

Put it on and ignore it.

Use it as a time-keeper, like SnoozeRadio 78.

With the exception of Mully's forced yelling, their show is pure pablum.

If they get the morning slot, they will not last for more than 12 months.

North is gone, okay, BFD, but please give us something better than M&H.
