It's a really good signing. LH (switch), middle of the order power hitter with a high OBP. That is EXACTLY what they needed offensively.

He is a great catcher defensively, despite his cruddy playoffs two years ago. That is going to be essential with a young staff.

Also, the big get during this off season is supposed to be 1-2 veteran starting pitchers. Grandal has to be an attraction (obviously far, far less than dollars), especially if they are targeting Ryu, which is a distinct possibility.

this is one of those guys where he's been above average and then once signed by the white sox forgets how to play baseball

It's very early in FA and the market hasn't been set, so yeah....they're going to have to overpay. There are worse contracts and he'll end up being a DH.

I like it. They've done much dumber free agents, like Adam Dunn and Adam LaRoche.

They really need to figure out a left handed starting pitcher....doubt they'll do that in Free agency, though.
