you know their plan for 2B and CF.

Hopefully a high end starter happens next.

RF and a back end rotation guy, let that market come to you.

We can still make a trade with the Royals for an ex-Cub.

Especially since the next CBA will undoubtedly make holding him back now a complete waste.

Dumb question here but what’s a limited no trade clause? Seems like a binary thing.

Isn’t that just a no trade clause? Maybe I’m confusing sports but it is in the NBA.

No trade means just that.

Limited means there's a list of teams he will accept a trade to.

That’s dumb. I would never even want a full no trade clause as a player. Just give me the limited version. If y’all suck then hell yeah I’m open to a deal.

A limited no trade clause is pretty much “limited” to really good players with leverage. I’m not sure why this is confusing.

It’s because you seemingly haven’t put much thought into it. What’s the benefit for the team by doing a full no trade clause vs a limited no trade clause? The former seems to unnecessarily hamper the team vs a limited no trade clause so your response is lacking.

I can't judge this move outside of its eventual context. To the extent it inhibits them from getting one of the top free agent starting pitchers out there, it's a bad move. However, it is nice to know that they're seeing what everyone else is seeing, and realize that McCann almost certainly had a career year.

It is being explained poorly to you.

A limited trade clause means he has the option to veto trades to certain teams he provided beforehand, or that he provides at the end of each season and that selection runs 12 months until he can provide a new list.

The teams not on his list (the player provides a list of usually between 8-15 teams) he can be traded to at any time during the final 3 years of the deal; he would have no say.

A full no trade clause gives more power to the player than a limited trade clause.

You can always waive your full no trade clause also, it's not like you're stuck

Only if he signs a deal that will lead him to be severely underpaid if he actually ends up being good or overpay him if he is a bust.

This guy is a cyber metrics defensive legend - 12th highest cumulative rating of all time despite his late bloomer status. Generally speaking, guys who are that prolific on defense are piss poor offensively, but this guy posts nice OPS figures despite being a .240 hitter. Great overall signing. The young SPs stand to benefit immensely from this.

The ability to approve or disapprove can usually be parlayed into other benefits to induce the player to accept.

I wouldn't doubt that McCann will be shopped around the league.Right now they are heavy in catching and light in starting pitching. Grandal will be a decent improvement in the line-up because of his ability to switch hit and DH. But I saw where Mercedes just got added to the 40 man roster and I think he is going to be a good major league hitter at catcher. This signing in not what I expected them to do but it is a positive move over-all and does improve their inventory of good major league players.

One of Grandal's assets is his ability to frame pitches, something that McCann does not do well. Offensively, they are pretty close. Don't get me wrong, I really love McCann as a player but I do not think that he will be happy as a back-up catcher. He deserves better than that.
