One of the dumbest sports related notions that I believe I have ever heard. This is typically uttered by non NBA fans.

Denied.

NBA players even realize this.

So meaningful that star players routinely take days off just because they want to.

Players and coaches of teams that have a chance treat it like extended preseason.

I could easily make the argument that it is meaningful.

This is what the history of Finals winners suggests.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/2 ... s_by_seed/

Thus the regular season does matter. If it didn't then why aren't there any 5, 7, or 8 seeds winning championships? Ever.

Only ever been 1 6th seed to win the championship. Houston with Hakeem.

3/4ths of the time champion has been a 1 seed.

It's funny how the NBA season doesn't matter for the opposite reason that the NHL season doesn't matter.

Paradoxical in fact.

Its the NFL Reg. season which doesn't really matter if anything.

When teams at .500 make the playoffs, it is meaningless to me.

.500 teams make it to the playoffs in the NFL too. In fact .500 teams (a great number of them) have also made it to the Super Bowl. If anything the NFL Regular Season is much more meaningless.

NBA Regular Season goes a long way towards determining who the actual champion will be.

Baseball and college football have the most meaningful regular seasons as the playoffs are difficult to make. But all sports have diluted the regular season. The NFL fucked it up when they made four team divisions.

Hockey and basketball are a joke with long regular seasons and too many teams in the playoffs. I would prefer top four only in both conferences.

I watch anyway because I love sports.

The NFL going to eight divisions of four made a perfect scheduling matrix for the first time in a long time, thought you'd appreciate it.

9 of last ten seasons a team .500 or worse made the NBA playoffs.

2 out of last 10 seasons have had an NFL team .500 or worse in playoffs.

I agree with the last point but the notion that the regular season doesn't matter is fallacious. If it didn't there would be more 3,4, and 6's winning and 5,7, 8 would have won at some point.

Only two 9-7 teams have won the Super Bowl. Every other Super Bowl champ had at least 10 wins.

How many .500 teams have ever made it to an NBA Finals? Or won an NBA Finals series? How many of them have made it to a Conf. Finals?

You are comparing a one game playoff to a series so of course their is more variance. If the NCAA tourney was a best of 7 each round, a top 1-2 seed would never lose in the first two rounds.

It was news last night that Lebron an AD were playing the second game of a back to back this weekend. But you are bored and looking to troll right now.

Not really. I'm stating a fact that is backed up by evidence. You are arguing about process not to be confused with "The Process". I'm not. It doesn't matter how they go about determining the champion.

72% of NBA champions are determined by being Regular Season #1 seeds. Thus if you are a #1 seed there is a nearly 3/4th chance that you will be champion. Your #1 seed is determined by your regular season record.

No other major sport can boast a numbered % which is that high.

NBA rarely makes any sense. It is a fairytale for those who want to believe in it. Much like WWE wrestling, Santa Claus, or the Easter Bunny. No other reason to explain the United Center being virtually packed with sellout crowds every year since Jordan retired. Didn't they only recently break the sellout streak?
