The over riding reason, IMO, Grandal was obtained was walks. I think McCann still catches 40% of the time, saving wear and tear on Grandal and freeing him up to DH 2-3 times a week.

McCann is better than a back-up catcher. He is a top tier major league catcher, as is Grandal and therefore they should make him part of a trade where he can be valuable as an asset. I think that the Yankees might well be interested in him since they lost out on Grandal and Sanchez is a butcher as a catcher. The Yanks have a lot of good young pitching prospects in their system and a couple of interesting young outfielders also.

Mc Cann is one year removed from being released by the Tigers even though he still had two years of arbitration eligibility remaining. That is who Mc Cann is. He had a career first half for us and I am happy we were able to ride the wave but it would be foolish to bank on it coming back.

If someone is interested to give a good trade, you move him as he is gone in a year anyway. If not, he is a nice back up.

Sanchez really has improved as a defensive catcher.

I think it's 50/50 whether last year was a fluke. He hit the shit out of lefties and if you break it down, he only had one bad month. A horrendous month, in fact. July. He's a better catcher in all aspects than Grandal other than framing, and framing is a fake stat. Once the word is out that you're good at faking out umpires, then you don't fake out umpires near as much.

The only thing I know as a Sox fan about likelihood McCann was a fluke is if we count on him he will be a fluke.

Sanchez is a below average catcher. All the guy does is hit some home runs. As such he is better as a DH than as a position player. That is why the Yankees wanted Grandal who is both a better receiver as well as a hitter.

He had a 3.8 WAR. He had a 2.8 total the 4 years previous. Both fluke AND figured some things out.

I'm torn on trading him. I wish we had control of him until 2021. I for sure don't want Grandal catching more than 100 games.

Maybe but I think the McCann is a legit major league starting catcher. There are very few major league catchers who can both hit and play defense and he is one of them. And he is a legit home run threat in Sox Park. He's earned a decent 2-3 year deal from someone. It won't be the White Sox but he has good value as a trade asset. 8) 8) 8)

Recognizing that All-Star selections are a somewhat flawed way to identify the best players of a season season given that they only reflect first-half performances, MLB has come forward with two sets of All-MLB teams to recognize the true best of 2019. Per MLB, a fan vote accounted for half of the decision-making, while a panel of experts handled the other half. There were no set numbers of nominees for each team or position, or an attempt to split the teams up by league. It is simply meant to recognize the best players at each position.

The 2019 All-MLB Second Team...
