The players in 1977 were slow, tiny, and weak. Throwing a guy on his head couldn't really hurt him when the guy doing it only weighed 200 lbs. If today's players were allowed to play that way there would be multiple deaths every Sunday.

loved that pre game show as a kid and that was even before I loved football

1977 is a little before my time

id wake up sunday and my older brother would hog the tv with the cisco kid, followed by the lone ranger. Then I had to go to mass...and we had to dress in really nice clothes for sunday mass. I hated putting on black socks. That was my fight. I had a legit reason as my skin was sensitive and the feeling irritated me. Always black socks, never white and they were never cotton. I'm still particular the material for my socks today.

oh, did I hate sundays.

Then, my great uncle, who worked at the factory that printed whatever the equivalent of mc donalds bucks was for burger king, gave us sheets of Burger King bucks. My dad would never pass on that. Every Saturday became 5 pm mass followed by burger king, every single week.

Anyway, Brent and The Greek would regularly spar on air back in those days. One time they actually threw down off camera. CBS was so much better than NBC pregame. I still instinctively think of CBS when I think of NFL on TV.
