Agreed. I think Hahn knows he needs a big name signing to keep the fan base on board with the "rebuild".

They need a DECENT left handed starting pitcher. Hamels won't break the bank, but they'll need better.

I'd rather have Bumgarner. I think his redass would be good for the rest of the staff. But the thing is, I'll take what I can get. If it's Wheeler, cool.

I don't have a guy.

If you had wasted your time you would have seen that in the previous post I relayed that people at soxtalk seemed to think the Sox would get Wheeler.

I would be severely underwhelmed if he were their only sp signing.

I think a 2 year deal would be problematic if they were also signing a bigger name for a long term.

They will need someone to pitch innings this year with guys like Kopech, Cease and Rodon on innings limits. Next year they there should be no restrictions and a rotation of FA, Giolito, Kopech, Cease, Lopez, Rodon and hopefully Dunning pushing his way into the discussion.

Either way, based on what I've seen Wheeler is going over 100 million. Jerry won't go that far.

I don't disagree but I'm not looking for a James Shields replacement. We aren't winning a pennant this year.

Jeff Lowrie as a placeholder for Madrigal for a year? Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Mets will include a prospect to whoever is willing to take Lowrie.

Lowrie is a bum who can back up Mendrick until he gets DFA. but can they buy a worthwhile prospect and get a couple of A ball lottery arms for the low cost of $13M?

Sox have re-signed Ryan Burr and Caleb Frare to minor league contracts and invited them to Spring Training.

That would be a smart move as it would free up a lot of money to sign Wheeler (vs signing a FA outfielder). He’s a solid defender as well which would help offset the issues in LF.

I wouldn't mind that if they gave up some nobody. But with the Sox it would probably be another Tatis. Also, Pedersen is not an everyday player. You absolutely can't play him against lefties.

Pederson is only signed through 2020 so he won’t command anything more than a mid-range prospect.

WHEELER IS RIGHT HANDED!!
I'm the first person to call out the righty / lefty matchup overrated and overused...but that's in the bullpen. There has to be ONE LEGITIMATE left handed started in the rotation. They have NONE right now.

Bumgarner is the only legitimate answer on the FA market but this would be a White Sox First. Historically, they've always tried to find cast-offs or guys coming off of injury / surgery that catch lightning in a bottle. I'm not familiar with anyone available in this category.

Bumgarner
Giolito
Kopech
Cease
Winner of Covey / Lopez or any other scrap heap pitcher they find.

I can get a little excited with a rotation like this.

Leury can handle that platoon.

One year until Pederson becomes a FA and he is a platoon player. I would hope he would cost little in a trade. I do think it would be a good move. It gives them a chance to see if any of the minor league RF turns into something next year.

The latest has the Phillies in the lead for Wheeler with the Sox and Rangers still in the mix. Sounds like Wheeler is going to hit the jackpot.

Not looking likely Sox will pony up for Wheeler. And of course they aren't in the Cole/Strasburg mix either. And I don't see Bummer coming here. And Hamels is another oblique injury waiting to happen.

Sounds like more of the same on the South Side.

The best thing for this franchise and the Bulls is for Uncle Jerry to pass.

It will be ridiculous to miss on second tier guys after last year's free agency debacle but nothing surprises me with the Sox front office.

The money will be spent...poorly.

The young talent is impressive. Cough up some cash for pitching and they are right there. Pederson would be a good pickup if cheap enough in terms of prospect currency, but will they get it done??

They have no excuses if they can't put together a solid roster this offseason. Grandal was an excellent signing but have to supplement that move or it's an overpay.
