Who's all in for this still?

It's not quite far enough from me ... maybe another 30 miles East and I'll think about chartering a plane.

Maybe.

I'm doing an immersion at Lake Bluff beach at noon. Then Hot Toddies and Hard Cider under the beach shelter, in front of a fire...still wearing shorts and Crocks.

Come on down.

I'm not in a good place right now. I just gotta get thru this week. Hold it all together, and then fall apart.

You're funny too.

So get this...I had to quit my job a few weeks ago, it's too much. I didn't want to but I can't do all this. I went back to school this fall. My practicals were this week and finals are next week. I'm stressed. Yesterday in the middle of one of my practicals I get a call, my son had a seizure. He's been off his medication for a few months...I get the feeling he's going to be dx'd with epilepsy. It all just sucks, I'm a hot mess. And I really really miss my dog because these are the times when she was so comforting.

Nothing is done for Christmas.

Damn. Sorry to hear about that, sounds pretty tough.

I think it's pretty clear that the event has to be moved to the Spaulding manor.

Nothing is "done"?

F that, everything is done. Are your kids going to remember the lights or decorations of Christmas morning? Is your husband going to remember any of that? No. What your kids are going to remember is the magic of Christmas morning. The tradition of Christmas morning. The coffee, or hot cocoa, or breakfast that you all had together. They are not going to remember what gift they opened. They're going to remember their dog there on Christmas morning. And although she is not there this year physically, she's definitely there in your memory and in her spirit.

Christmas is what you make it. And if you make it death, then rest your soul. -Andrew Wood

What's wild is how loved I am and how many people are willing to help. Parents who drop everything, friends who have dropped off dinner and wine, people who have texted, classmates where I'm old enough to be their mom that helped or included me, people at work...There is a chef who is a phenomenal chef an great at bread baking. I asked him if he'd come over and teach me how to bake bread this semester because one of my things was to make a baguette. It never worked out so last week I told him to make me a baguette that I could just hand in and if he got a bad grade he could go in and fight with my instructor. Anyway...he came in early to work last week on an over lapping shift and walked me thru how to make bread and what dough should be and what I was looking for. Somebody cared enough to do that and that's amazing.

Still I thought my son was in the clear and now we're not. I'm so sad. And I have to work and study and it all sucks. And my mother in law is all like so what are you making for Christmas and here's what I think...Oh good. Good.

You want Frank to come over to your house and give that "was it over when Santa bombed Pearl Harbor" speech?

Who makes that magic happen or do you think it magically happens?

If that's what it takes to make magic happen!

See you tomorrow, Spaulding.

I wish I could have made it back to Chicago this weekend. Couldn't make it work.

most of what is going on isn't permanent. Things will get better.

Nobody will remember if Christmas dinner has two less side dishes, or if the kids got one less present (unless you usually just give them one in which case they might be pissed). See if Katy's is going to be open on Christmas and if so get an assload of pork fried noodle to go along with Christmas dinner, dont worry about your mother-in-law because she'll be dead soon enough, and go today and have a beer and a hug with the rest of these scoundrels.

Damn, I am missing out. I never miss a chance to hang with such board luminaries. However, I'm in Charleston SC for Phish weekend. Bought Mrs. Spiracy tickets to all three shows down here. Good freakin times.
