Good for the Yeankees. They can have him at 7 years.

You know you are a brainwashed fan when you are talking yourself into it being 'ok' that you missed out on Gerrit Cole. Newsflash, yeah years 6&7 will suck but that's the price for getting 3-5 years of his prime.

Stupid money.

You also know you're brainwashed when just a few years ago you were ready to build the Kris Bryant wing in Cooperstown, and now you're find with trading him for pennies on the dollar.

If he's good the first half of the deal why not? But I admire how vested you are in Jerry's overall wealth.

That Jon Lester contract is tying up $27.5 million of the cubs payroll....I'm glad you are enjoying wasting money for a World Series 3 seasons ago.

That was one of my favorite Cub fan/Score sayings. The WS win will make it all worth it and we won't bitch later.

 Along with the Wrigley renovations and TV Network would leave the Cubs with unlimited streams of revenue. A $300 million payroll would be no problem for the Cubs!

Yeah, that World Series really sucked.

I did not say that. Of course it was great. Lester was a huge part of that....in 2016. Season #4 and he's done and making the most money on the team. Bad. Ask any Blackhawks fan how much they love Seabrook or Toews.

Right , the goal should be to win the WS and sustain it with the lowest payroll possible . Good luck with that .

This is a typical Sox small mind approach: penny pinch now to save for some miracle free agent who wants nothing to do with your team anyway. You miss the point about Lester: we WON, something your team will never do anytime soon. The cost is worth it.

Take Lester out of the equation and the Cubs are still working with a lot of shit money on the books.
Cole is awesome, but 7 or 8 or 9 years? That's insanity.

The Sox payroll and front office is a joke. Unacceptable. I'm still pissed about them going cheap on Machado. It doesn't mean I want them to spend foolishly on 7 year pitching contract.

They should back up the Brinks truck for Bumgarner and be happy with what would appear to be a really good staring rotation.

MadBum was great for several years but look at his last 3 yrs...he is an under .500 pitcher. Is that who you really want to back up the brinks truck for?

What I want them to do is draft and develop starting pitching. right now they have no left-handed starter in their rotation. Overpaying...yes, but that's the only option right now.

What if it were possible to win 3 Stanley Cups without offering a stupid contract to Brent Seabrook? I mean, let's just think a little out of the box..but you just keep being you.
Dope.

I get your point wd, but winning three championships in a 6-7 year span is a lot different than beating up on a historically weak NL and watching the Indians piss away a World Series.

If the White Sox were to win 3 World Series titles in the 2020s, I wouldn't care if they had a $300 million payroll for a 75 win team in the 2030s.

JR isn't oking a 7 year contract for a pitcher and doubly so at that money. He still has visions of Jamie Navarro dancing in his head 20 years later.

Sox talking to Rangers about RF Nomar Mazara.

If you're not giving up anything of substance then go for it. But if it's for real prospects, pass.

I fear trading a top 10 prospect for Avi Garcia.
