Fine as a stop gap....the cost appears nothing. He is at best a platoon player, but man....the little league ballpark in TX plus the juiced ball last year and he only had 20 HR? Fine for a cheap insurance policy in right field, but definitely not what I'd call a long-term solution.

I'll feel anxious until they figure out the left-handed starter. They need to stop jerking off in the corner and get moving on one of the three: Bumgarner, Ryu, Keuchel. The market is now set.....pay it. It's their own damn fault they're in this mess. I have the most faith in Bumgarner. It's risky and going to be expensive, but no choice.

I think I'd define this move as uninspiring.

I don't know what Steele Walker will be. He sounds pretty similar to Mazara, except a capable defender with less power. He obviously is cheaper.

Irrespective of Walker, why trade for an uninspiring player when there are at least equally capable people available in FA and you have plenty of money?

This is one of those typical KW/Hahn moves where they become obsessed with a player at some point in his career and are dogged in their pursuit of him even after he proves himself incapable.

Mazara is just filler, nondescript, league average type corner OF. He won't suck badly enough to hate him or be good enough to cheer for. In two years, he will be gone leaving no mark. Why trade for that guy?

I know this is gonna be a reach, but I am hoping he becomes Jorge Soler 2.0 with the Royals.

Well, Soler doesn't have lopsided platoon splits, but you could easily argue that Mazara is more accomplished than Soler was prior to last season.

Agreed, I think this is the most reasonable take

You trade for him if you realize after working with him that Walker's upside at best will be Joe Borchard. Better to blame it on the Rangers not developing him than your scouts fucking up.

Plus you have a piece that can stand in RF for low money and you can either send to the bench if you are contending and rent a better RF, or deal angst freein July if the pitching staff hasn't come together and you are 8 back.

If nothing else, Mazara is freakishly large. When Madrigal shows up, who is freakishly small, Sox can have a sideshow for a sawbuck.

Where do you think they will be in five more years after the renovations are done and the TV Network is in place for a few years?

Jerry's kids in denial. Your owner is cheap and no one wants to play for him in the NBA or MLB. So you end up having to trade for 3rd tier players like Porter and Mazara.

On some level you see that Mazara is only one year older and already an accomplished MLB player. He was starting in Texas when Walker was still in college. Obviously the Sox got the greater talent in the trade.

I don't think anyone here cares about Jerry's wallet. If he said tomorrow, the budget is unlimited we'd all be fine with it. But if you tie $20 million up in Zack Wheeler and he's going 12-11 on a top five offensive team, Jerry ain't just gonna spend right over that money like the Yankees or Red Sox might. Understand?

Jerry is a terrible owner.
i wanted Machado I'm pissed they went cheap. The contract he got was market value....expensive, but market value and they suck for letting him get away.
I want them to overpay for Bumgarner. 5 years 125 million. Again...it's the market.

There was no market for giving 9 years to Garret Cole. The Yankees are the only team willing and able to live with that Albatross.

Jon Lester's contract sucks right now. Was it worth it for a WS win? I guess it was. I'd be able to live with that and Heyward's contract, but the full picture is Lester+Heyward+Darvish+Chatwood+Kimbrel is a lot of stupid money spent. It matters. Your seeing it now. I don't believe the Nationals needed to spend stupid money to earn a World Series, even though they did AFTER they won the world series.

Rick and Kenny were looking at the back of his baseball card. 20 homers! He's good!.

Yes. It would be very TDS-like to not understand that JR, who has owned the franchise for 35 years, has parameters. We don't have to like it, but it isn't anything new.

I guess Dennis needs to answer this but are these pitching deals insured? I assume you cannot insure future suck but what about arm and shoulder surgeries? If there is no protection at all it is simply insane to go that long for that much.

Today Bernsie and Connor are more angry about Mazara than Cubs business. What is the worst that happens with this guy? One of the prospects needs to step up and become a better outfielder and replace him? So what? He will fill a place this year and then we will see.

Are my fellow Sox fans really bitching and thinking this is the year? That is preposterous without tremendous luck. Next year is the year to have anger if things are not ready to go opening day.

I like the move. They got a young guy that has shown he can play at the majors level for a guy who is probably just the next Brian Anderson. I want them to do something about the pitching staff, but the offensive and defensive pieces feel like they are in place for the first time in a long time.

Shit, people bitched about Carlos Lee for Podsednik in 2005

Hopefully he does well, is offered and rejects a qualifying offer and the Sox get the same second round pick back that they spent on Walker. In the meantime, Basabe impresses the year after his hamate bone removal, is platooning in RF in 2021 and takes over the position when Mazara walks.

 Nomar Mazara, who has never had an OPS over 750 in the 2nd friendliest hitters park in baseball is going to reject 17.5 million dollars

Have you stopped taking your medication?

I disagree. He was the worst last year. Dead last for inning qualified shortstops.

It seemed like a no brainer to put Vizquel on the bench, Anderson being one of a few reasons, but apparently the loyalty thing reared it's ugly head.

Mazara is a lottery ticket type. you don't buy lottery tickets when the plan is to go to the playoffs in 2020.
