He will be about same age when he enters free agency.

No. Rendon has a working glove and a cleaner recent injury history.

So he'll sign with the sox after his next free agent contract expires at age 38?

No, he'll join perennial Cy Young favorite Kerry Wood as a Cubbie ambassador in Boystown.

I know the numbers say he's great. But he's really not. He's decent to good. So I would trade him. And the team that eventually gives him the big money in 2 years will regret it. He fails in big spots. People say that doesn't matter. I say it does.

His value will never be higher. Trade him now and get some kids. His money will be 20 million per for the next 2 years. So the Cubs can get kids and use that money else where.

It's a no brainer to me.

He's not going to get more than Rendon, Arenado and Trout...but it'll be in the same ballpark.

There's no way he's signing a 5 year deal.

I would have thought Bryant would be up there with Sandberg in the list of Cub legends in my lifetime.

I don't know how it's come to the point of him being so underappreciated by the fan base.

Good luck building around baez rather than him. If only Bryant could slap a tag on a baserunner once a month the fans would love him more.

The greatest ability is availability and Baez has had much more of that than Bryant over the past two seasons.

No way he's sniffing $200m at the way he's trending.

That's a bit disingenuous as I assume you expanded your search to the last two years rather than last year because you saw that Bryant played in more games than Baez.

I highly value the SS position. It's a physically difficult job in a similar way to catcher. I said the switch to SS would take its toll on Baez to the derision of Cub fans, but there it is. He was down in every category across the board, played in less games and was a less dynamic defender to the eye

I'll take him at his word that he was battling injuries the last couple of years and that he returns to mid .900s ops.

AAV is really the question. If he signs for more than 5 years, he'll get more than 200 million on the next contract

He is just too quiet and unseen to be this generation's Mr. Cub. The lesser talented popular Rizzo will be that.

I think Bryant will earn whatever contract he gets. Baez probably will as well. The guy you will forced into a bad deal on is Contrearas. Once you pay him big money, you really start to notice the deficiencies.

He is the one who is replaceable and is also one who is at the top of his market. That is the guy I would move.

Bitching about his service time as soon as he was called up might not have been helpful either. A Cubs fan I worked with didn't like that at all...

You have to know you make a deal with the devil when you choose Boras.

Not really. Its true as we sit here today. Maybe the next two seasons KB plays in 150 games again and its a moot point. If Bryant only plays in 110, 120 the following two seasons, that's going to hurt his FA value for sure. He'll still get generational wealth, but it probably won't be $300 million if there are injury questions.

No, really it is.

Bryant played more games than Baez in one of those two seasons. While you are correct, the data you rely on isn't indicative of the opinion you seek to prove.

Anyone playing 110-120 games is going to be discounted. Bryant played in 151, 1551, 151, 102, 147. The 102 appears to be an anomaly

I'd say playing in 1500 games is the anomaly

I misread his 2019 games played as 127 and not 147. My mistake, which basically invalidates my point.

Until Baez came along (el Mago), Kerry was my favorite Cubs player of all time. I loved watching him pitch and still feel bad that his career just didn’t take off like I thought it would.

I only own two jerseys. One is Kerry and the other is el Mago.

Baez plays the game like no one I have ever seen.

Salaries are ramping up, and the next collective deals will probably raise or alter the cap like luxury tax. Meaning even bigger contracts. His free agency is well timed. I tend to agree with you two here.
