If they can get two of the Braves' top three pitching prospects, and Inciarte to play CF, I think Theo has to do the deal. There's no way that Bryant re-signs in Chicago especially since he will expect 8/255. And as constructed, the Cubs are not a legitimate WS contender.

They need two young starters who can at least fill the #4/#5 slots this year and have the upside to be #3/#4 in 2021 behind Darvish and Hendricks. And they need as little association with Scott Boras as possible.

Really dumb, bad take.

So you are in favor of him getting 8/240 at minimum?? Given they've stated they can't afford Baez, Rizzo and Bryant, plus the Schwarber, Contreras contracts long term, what's your plan??

And Rendon got 7/245 which is a 35 AVV so 30M for Bryant probably is not happening...

What does his "greed" have to do with anything?

Rendon was a free agent, Bryant is not. That will factor into whatever deal he gets.

Boras wants him to get paid for that extra year of control. Good luck to him. Both sides are simply playing the hand they've been dealt based on the current rules of the game. Greed doesn't really factor into anything.

Greed probably isn't the right word. But Bryant from Day 1 with Boras has always been a "get every penny possible" type of guy unlike a Rizzo (who took a team friendly deal) or Baez (who may accept a deal at a fair market value as opposed to sucking every possible penny out of whatever team offers the highest dollar).

There is a lot to be said about being in a place where one is happy as opposed to going somewhere offering more where you are not as happy. Bryant seems like the guy wanting that every possible penny, thus "greedy".

Let's be honest. All these guys are getting generational wealth. If you gotta be a Boras guy then ok great. Go for it. But guys like Rizzo who just want to be paid well and then focus only on winning, are more team guys and less "greedy". Hopefully Baez becomes that guy and hopefully we can get top value for Bryant.

It would be funny if he ended up in Philly with Harper and both get booed like crazy when they go through their slumps, which all players go through.

We shall see.

The telltale sign of Bryant going to Philly or not is if he has a cat named Rocky.

Washington's farm system is as bad as the Cubs. If Atlanta doesn't want him, the Cubs need to keep Bryant.

All Boras guys are "greedy" guys who don't care about winning.

Gotcha.

*edit: they care about money more than they do winning.

Or if they start trading or signing Bryant's relatives.

Kris Bryant's mom would probably be better than Yonder Alonzo was last season.

I actually think he signed this deal because he realized how much money he stole the past two years.

I heard he re-injured his elbow signing the contract. He will be re-evaluated in 6 months...

It was like he gave them the Lackey Red Sox DL clause retroactively. If he is even a decent 7th inning guy who can close once in a while when Kimbrel needs a night off, that is huge. And if he is still broken, no big deal.

$1M if he makes it to Opening Day, and another $1.25M in incentives.

Actually like what the Cubs are doing with the bullpen, just wished they had in retrospect not signed Kimbrel. Wick, Ryan, Wieck, Chatwood then you have a bunch of lottery tickets like Magill, Morrow, Underwood, Alzolay if he doesn't start, and Winkler. Lot of guys to move back and forth from Iowa if they dont produce. Other than Kimbrel and Chatwood no big contracts to carry if they dont produce like Kelvin Herrera.

I'd like to move Quintana, package him with Somebody like Contreras or Schwarber and get back a nice haul.

I meant the base value without incentives.

Will be interesting if Murph’s source is legit...gotta give him credit if true. Not the typical Bernstein “the situation is fluid” BS.
