Clone wars animated show, shit ton of comic books, I guess you could throw in the actual Star Wars books too, but those I can understand being left out.

It’s mainly Clone wars and the cool Darth Vader comics that you’ll see referenced.

Clone Wars show is considered canon I think. Rebels is too.

The old books are what got tossed I thought.

I see thank you.

From browsing through them I think there are some pretty cool Vader stories in the comics.

Books are whatever, so I understand.

There is an interview where Kathleen Kennedy says she has no source material outside of the previous movies tho. “No books, no comics.”

That’s bad.

Ohhhhh, ok. I thought that the Baby Yoda was in this movie, but someone informed me a few days ago that that was in a series. Anyway, that must be a hard audience to please.

Whatever happened to Baby Yoda?

They are, along with Resistance and the new comic books (from Marvel).

Then why did the lady who is in charge of Disney Star Wars say this?

“There's no source material. We don't have comic books. We don't have 800-page novels. We don't have anything other than passionate storytellers who get together and talk about what the next iteration might be.”

Out of context, your quote is...

The point is that, unlike the MCU or Lord of the Rings/Harry Potter et al, their comics and books came first. In the Star Wars universe, the movies came first. The novels and comics are part of the sequel going forward, not pulled from the past.

Correct. The 9 films, the 2015-present Marvel Comic books, Clone Wars, Rebels, Droid Tales, Resistance, Forces of Destiny, Galaxy of Adventures, Roll Out, The Mandalorian, Novels written about characters in the previously listed shows/cartoons....are all canon.

I don’t think that is what she is saying.

This is the article.

https://www.rollingstone.com/movies/movie-news/lucasfilm-president-kathleen-kennedy-interview-rise-skywalker-future-star-wars-912393/

Source material is source material regardless of when it came out.

It was a bad business and creative decision to not use any characters from the EU, canon or not.

My understanding was Disnet, Abrams, Kennedy or maybe all did not want to simply shit on any of the past stuff in particular. It simply needed to be cleaned up and organized in some way to keep things moving forward and make any sense at all.

Example is you can't have a bunch of stories from the past out there about Han and Leia's four kids running across the universe doing things with Darth Maul and Vader then make the movies as they did.

I read the same article. I guess we're interpreting her comments differently.

How can source material be source material if it came out after something (aftermath books coming out after The Force Awakens, for example)? It's the proverbial chicken/egg philosophy.

As far as the EU stuff goes, it was all over the place, and very contradictory. If they had kept it, the story would have been as convoluted as Lost.

Honestly, I’m not anywhere close enough to well versed on this subject to make a proper argument for implementing the EU characters.

I just watch YouTube videos about certain character’s history or read Wookieepeedia when I hear of someone interesting in the Star Wars universe. I just think referencing or including a popular character or two from the EU could have at least helped what I see as a seriously flawed Trilogy.

I don’t think Kathleen Kennedy’s vision for Star Wars has worked outside of ticket sales. Maybe that’s all that matters to the mouse, but I personally don’t think she will remain in charge of SW creative decisions whenever her contract runs out.

The only thing Disney did really wrong was go too crazy with their new toy for the obvious money. The "lands" at the parks and stuff was a no brainer. The movies and all the side movies and shows came out too fast and too close to each other without as much thought and planning as was needed. That is today's corporate Hollywood however.

I'm confused ... (this just in). Is this show supposed to be happening 900-1000 years prior to ROTJ?

No. 5 years or so after.

yes...five years after ROTJ. Baby Yoda and Anakin were both born in the same year.

The Aftermath books are considered canon. Same with the Thrawn books.

Well how the frig can Yoda be a baby in it? He's five years or so dead.

Not really Yoda (maybe)...maybe a clone. Maybe another member of the Yoda species. Baby Yoda is 50 years old.

I kind of went, “huh really”, when the Falcon is rescuing people standing on the outside of an exploding star destroyer. I mean, even in the Star Wars Universe, I suspect space does not have air or air pressure.

Not a fan of spoilers there big guy. My guess not having gone yet... Was the destroyer in a planet's atmosphere like when the Falcoln picked up Luke hanging outside under the cloud city in Empire?
