I'm not saying that it's hard to check email but at the very least there's a fair amount of behavior change the HS'ers have to go through to incorporate email into their day-to-day, and that because comms has so radically changed since the time we all were in HS - changed to a degree where email isn't even a thing for them - we should cut them some slack. Email is basically the fax machine of the 2010s.

See, I find this a ridiculous thing to say, particularly the underlined part. What you posted is simply wrong. The only behavior they need to change is to check email occasionally, like maybe once a day. This is not a significant behavior change, nor should any slack be given to a teenager too lazy to do it for something as important as college admissions.

I think your insistence on the ease of checking email just says more about your time and place in history than it does about email. You think it's simple to incorporate email into your lifestyle because you grew up on email - you live and breathe email at work and school. That doesn't happen anymore. People now grow up touching a face on a smartphone screen to talk to someone. They write "FavreFan" on their phone and then poof you're right there to chat with or video conference. They sit on a bus and then all of a sudden a face pops up on their phone with text written underneath it. It takes one button to respond. Though FB is also getting long in the tooth that's still around and so is instagram and snapchat. More of the same. Imagery and text are intertwined in all these platforms, and the interface is so radically different than email that there's a long ass lerning curve when you come from the world of Insta and Snapchat to email for the first time.

Email is cold and boring - there are no faces and no real-time comms. No three dots to let you know someone is typing or no double check in blue color to let you know someone read your message. There's a subject line - what the fuck is a subject line? Also, what the fuck is a @gmail.com? It's a totally different and foreign world. They have to get used to that. You don't because email more or less was your Snapchat or your Insta.

This just how you know you are getting older.

I still can't believe the younger generation mostly watches other people open boxes or play video games rather than doing literally anything else that wouldn't be the most boring thing in human history outside of a NBA thread.

"It's difficult to learn how to use email and learn how to check it once a day if you didn't grow up with it" might be the worst argument I've ever heard attempted on this board. It's a ridiculous thought.

Right. It's not like they have to boot up the old Commodore to check email.

I'm going to watch pewdiepie instead of answer and hope he doesn't say anything about the Jews again.

You can literally check your email while taking a shit. It doesn't get any easier than that.

I signed up for NextDoor earlier this year. It's basically facebook, but you only get to see people who post stuff from your area. That place is littered with old farts who have zero concept of how the internet or computers. Comments are made completely off-topic, people post about how they can't find their previous post, and other insane ramblings. It's like Bigfan created a couple hundred mults in my neighborhood.

If you're not on NextDoor, I would highly recommend it. It's sometimes more entertaining than this message board.

Next door is fucking wonderful. I even got to troll a Jehovah's Witness and didn't get booted.

This right here is the fucking worst. My oldest likes to watch those videos on You Tube. I've gotten really good at finding them when she watches them then blocking the channels. She's just old enough to bitch that she can't find whatever she was watching like 10 minutes ago. Then I offer her the option to watch Scooby Doo and she's usually in. Win win.

Lots of people watch a box for hours a day and it doesn't even have the decency to open.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/19/business ... index.html

(CNN Business)An eight-year-old boy who reviews toys on YouTube has been named by Forbes as the platform's highest earner in 2019.

Ryan Kaji, whose channel Ryan's World has 22.9 million subscribers, earned $26 million in 2019 -- up $4 million from his earnings in 2018, when he also gained the highest-earning YouTuber spot.

Forbes estimates that the ten highest earners on YouTube, which is owned by Google (GOOGL), brought in a total of $162 million between June 1, 2018 and June 1, 2019.

Ryan first garnered an internet following in the "unboxing" genre, which involves opening presents on camera and commenting on each one.

Forbes' list is based on pre-tax income derived from things such as sponsored content, advertisements, merchandise sales and tours.

I get it for championships of competitive games but some people are playing single player games while making fart noises and dad jokes that aren't dad jokes because they are 22 year olds.

She's worried about checking 100 emails per week? Welcome to the real world.

I literally get 50 emails/hour. I studied to be an accountant but now I'm just a professional letter-writer.

Yup. I currently have 36 unopened emails at work, all from today, and I'm pretty good at keeping up with them.

I know this is going to sound like a crazy fantasy but every word of this story is true. A weeks days ago, my girlfriend happened to mention to me how attractive our new neighbor Linda was…
