Nothing more boring than talking, thinking, and wondering about what the "younger generation" is doing. Too often it just comes across as a bunch of old farts who have little to nothing better going on in their miserable lives.

Just say you didn't like my NBA joke.

This right here is the fucking worst. My oldest likes to watch those videos on You Tube. I've gotten really good at finding them when she watches them then blocking the channels. She's just old enough to patriot that she can't find whatever she was watching like 10 minutes ago. Then I offer her the option to watch Scooby Doo and she's usually in. Win win.

They grow out of it pretty quickly but it was definitely a thing for my oldest a couple years ago.

Watch people open boxes? What is that?

https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/19/business ... index.html

(CNN Business)An eight-year-old boy who reviews toys on YouTube has been named by Forbes as the platform's highest earner in 2019.

Ryan Kaji, whose channel Ryan's World has 22.9 million subscribers, earned $26 million in 2019 -- up $4 million from his earnings in 2018, when he also gained the highest-earning YouTuber spot.

Forbes estimates that the ten highest earners on YouTube, which is owned by Google (GOOGL), brought in a total of $162 million between June 1, 2018 and June 1, 2019.

Ryan first garnered an internet following in the "unboxing" genre, which involves opening presents on camera and commenting on each one.

Forbes' list is based on pre-tax income derived from things such as sponsored content, advertisements, merchandise sales and tours.

Wow. I really wasted my life.

I felt the same when I saw this shit.

It's not about how easy it is to check email, it's about how conceiving of email as a way to communicate with others is simply becoming obsolete. Like Rick said this is partly about aging. I'm sure many of us have laughed at older people signing up to take computer or Internet browsing classes at a community college when we were younger. Well now we've replaced those people.

When we write about how email is so easy and we can't believe "those younger folks" don't know how to use it all we're doing is repeating what older folks told us about us not knowing about writing checks/balancing a checkbook, or about writing letters with proper indentation and block styles.

We laughed at those folks and their stupid relics of an ancient past. Now we have our own relics, such as email.

Expecting a HS'er today to easily pick up on email is like expecting them to use floppy disks to save files. Yes to use a floppy disk is easy. But why the fuck would they use a disk when they can just save stuff on the cloud. That's the question they ask when we expect them to use email (why should I use this shit when I can do x y z). So again it's expecting them to adjust their mentality to start using obsolete/older tech and not about how simple it is to use that tech. And we should study this/get behind it - whatever is being cooked in tech kitchens these days is gonna push email out for sure, and that's already well underway. Even websites are being gutted in favor of mobile apps. And when that happens and you still cling to email you're gonna be the one signing up for classes at your local community college.

Again, this is simply wrong. And I find it a tad ironic that you think it’s us here that needs to change.

Email isn’t becoming obsolete at all. It’s incredibly important in the business world. Sure, I laugh at old folks who think Facebook is google, etc. What you don’t realize is this is the opposite side of the same coin. I’m now laughing at the idea that otherwise capable 18 year olds can’t figure out how to spend 2 minutes a day checking their email. That’s not a millennial/Gen X problem because email isn’t going anywhere. That’s a Gen Z problem and it’s up to them to adapt, not us.

Can’t be. Vegan’s defense of refusing to check emails is one of the most bizarre arguments I’ve ever seen offered up on this board. Or really anywhere.

You're just wrong on the obsolete thing. It is being replaced. Why do slack and Yammer exist? The more they scale and the more they're adopted in workplaces then that means the more email is pushed out.

That’s just not true. Like I already said, Slack and email have two separate functions within a business. Using them interchangeably is a sloppy, stupid idea. No wonder 18 year olds do it!

How can you avoid email? If you use Android and want to download anything from the Play store it requires a google id and concomitant gmail account. Once entered, any non-spam email you get automatically alerts on your screen. Unless you disable email notifications.

Veganfan,

How should colleges notify potential students? Instagram? Should professors require a snapchat submission entry of papers?

I’m also wondering how I should send attachments to my dealers around the country. I guess I need to tell them tomorrow that email is obsolete and they need to download Slack.

If children are avoiding using Email its probably (like everything else) due to the fact that it was something that their parents used.

The perception that something "must be cutting edge" is more important than whether it actually is with children.

I've had to tell girlfriends to EMAIL me, and not text me, important shit that I want to be able to refer to later on.

These are women in their 30s and 40s. It's amazing how much resistance that gets.

It's ridiculous. I always say cell phones were made for women. By their nature they always have to have something to grab onto, hold close to them as some kind of feeling of security or somethin.

Vegan will be proven to be correct on this within a few years. Email as we know it will be obsolete.

I think I’m with the meatless guy. In almost all cases I want something done, I turn to skype, not email.

And while we are at it... who leaves voice mails anymore?

Getting people to talk on the phone is near impossible.

I went back to a flip phone for mental health reasons so I really dont want to text anything more than "omw" or "here" or "ok" with the numbers...and calling people just to ask a simple question is like pulling teeth. It is a bit funny too, since I have had these same conversations via text and it can take hours to accomplish what a phone call can in less than one-hundred twenty seconds.
