My sister got fired because she refused a supervisor's order to break security protocol in order to speed up a line.

I travel a ton and always use precheck. As far as I can tell, they are sticklers for the metal detectors going off, they always pull the random check people aside, they always catch water in the bag. They seem to follow the rules that are put forth. When you consider the sheer number of travelers, I would expect some mistakes and pressure to build that cause exceptions.

The lines have become very quick.

The biggest protection right now is I don't see a motivation for an attack. Unless they can sneak some artifact in that would penetrate a cockpit door in-flight. Does downing a commercial airline in the middle of nowhere really move needles these days in the terror world?

The bread and butter for Airline/Airport security is behind the scenes...AI, facial recognition software, etc... They know who is moving when and where. TSA is just a facade to keep that secret shit hush/hush.

You really have a sister who worked TSA at airports? Before weed became basically legal everywhere anyone would want to fly domestically, used to always fly with a saran-wrapped eighth crotched. Figured the TSA agents with their fancy full-body scanners noticed the extra bulge in the taint area but let it go.

I never have. It’s a modest deterrent. The real bad guys are not getting nabbed by these routine checks.

You likely know MANY of these

I have two friends who have been TSA agents for years. One of them is a supervisor. They have stories you wouldn't believe. People's reactions to certain things, items found in carry ons, old ladies crying because they have to throw away their souvenir snow globes, Dominatrixes who have to throw away their 'tools' because they could be mock weapons (most of them are smart enough to put their lube in plastic ziplock bags however  ). It's pretty crazy.

Vacation travelers in general are stupid, lazy, and combative. Business travelers generally are not an issue outside of a water they forgot in their briefcase now and then. They want to write a book on all of the shit they have seen and celebrities they have met/patted down one day.

New Zealand does not have airport security for regional flights. You show up at the airport fifteen minutes before gates open, grab a coffee, and get on. It really is the way to go.

There is no consistency between airports in terms metal detectors to begin with. It's quite common to get flagged for a standard pair of work shoes on the return that didn't trigger anything on the original departure. This is particularly true at smaller airports where they are less concerned about long lines.

I have been flying a lot since 1988. TSA is what it is but yes it is in fact a ton safer than what used to be. People actually believe they were safer from hijack or terror with the dumbasses that were basically movie theater ticket takers running the security show? Please.

This is an example of you young people do not know a damn thing.

They're gonna make it through this year if it kills them.

The natives really cannot wait til they can get back to their regular routine of nothing happening for literally decades on end. Nor can I, to be honest.

Yea agreed on lack of consistency...i went to Boston a few months ago and I had one of those smallish bluetooth speakers in my bookbag/carry on. At Midway no one said anything. Leaving Boston, the TSA guy pulled to me to the side and asked me what it was...I told him and he said that was something I had to take out of my bag and put in a separate bin like with a laptop, and made me go through the line a 2nd time

The mantra I've heard the last few times I've flown is any electronics bigger than a phone, take them out.

Yeah. Her situation was at ABQ. There are two checkpoints and one of them was broken so everyone was at the single checkpoint. Understandably, people were getting angry. Then a suspicious package came through. My sister began following procedure and started to clear the area. Her supervisor came over and told her to do it a different way that was simply designed to move the line and cover his ass if they were being tested. My sister refused. He sent her home and she was fired for insubordination. (TSA is run in a sort of paramilitary fashion.)

My sister went to an attorney. He said she would get her job back for sure. But she said she didn't want to work for such a fucked up outfit. She just wanted to make sure she got paid for her vacation and sick time. I think he got her severance too.

I have a pair of work shoes that have gone through probably 30 different PreCheck locations without a problem, including both Terminal 1 and 3 at O'Hare. Terminal 2? Forget about it, alarms every time.

Go figure.
