Progress is definitely being made. I was pissed at the Machado failure last year but that may have been a blessing in disguise. They haven't done 1 thing this offseason that bothers me.

I think people had no illusions of being in the hunt for Strasburg or Cole. That's why Wheeler and Bumgarner were targeted.

They failed in their initial target this year. After failing on their target last year.

But the whole “players don’t want to play for the Sox unless they overpay significantly” theory doesn’t absolve the Sox FO the way you seem to think it does. It’s just another indictment.

This isn't the offseason to complain about that. They got every player they wanted except Wheeler because he sits to piss. I complained loudly last season and it took me months to get over the Machado failure. That may have been a blessing though because he looked like Heyward.
