Announced Henry Cavill playing the role of Geralt. Apparently he has been a huge fan of the books and games and campaigned for this as soon as Netflix greenlit the series.

Probably campaigned for it because he knew there’d be a bunch of sex scenes.

I've read a couple of the books. There's some good stories. It's fine.

But I don't think anyone believes the books are better. I know the author is a dick toward CD Projekt Red and I'm sure he directed Netflix to pretend those never happened. I'm sure the showrunner would have loved to use some of the game as source material.

They've even made sure to avoid Triss' look from the games.

A few images from the upcoming season.

Kind of spoilery.

So this perfect example of milquetoast millennial watched two episodes of the Witcher then skipped ahead to episode 5 where he decided to give the show a zero rating.

He works for Entertainment Weekly.

He his currently being taken apart on twitter:

I'm a bit past halfway through the first season, and I think this show is great.

Cavill owns the character, and the girl with the purple eyes is gorgeous and exotic (has to be in the running for best breasts of 2019).

It is more than a weekly creature feature. When you see some of the CGI, you can tell that they don't quite have Thrones money, but its disbelief-suspendable in that department.

It also jumps back and forth a lot, with some gaps of 12 years or more, yet the characters look almost undiscernable from age-to-age, but that is forgivable as well. The "Law of Surprise" and such are pretty cool, and the song is pretty catchy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHgowJ7d33k

I give it a firm 4 out of 5 stars.

Witchers don't age a lot and sorceresses don't age at all (in the looks department), so I don't expect those characters to show age.

I think only Calanthe has been shown in both the Geralt/Dandelion timeline and the Ciri timeline.

edit: And her Skellige husband.

I watched the first episode the other night . Fell asleep halfway through and not terribly impressed. I’ll give it another shot and re-watch the first episode to see if it holds my interest this time .

Same thing happened on my first watch of the first episode.

Tried it again last night and it was a bit better.

Second episode wasn't bad either.

I liked the first episode a lot.

If you don’t have the patience for world building and/or aren’t into medieval fantasy then this show probably isn’t for you.

I hardly know what’s going on, but am enjoying what I am learning.

I like it, but I assume it can be a bit confusing at first if you've not read The Last Wish.

Until the last couple of episodes, it has a 'Quest of the Week' feel, as it tells each of the stories from The Last Wish. The entire season essentially just sets up what will become the actual story.

Henry Cavill was meant to play Geralt though. He owns the role.

I’m not sure it’s possible for someone to like this show without having read the books. It’s mostly a combination of boring and confusing, and I’ve watched it with my undivided attention. I’m on episode 5, the one with the genie/djinn or whatever and I think I’m calling it quits now. I just don’t get the appeal.

So a lot of the stuff is told in flashbacks right?

Like the episode in Cintra with the surprise wedding and Mousesack? That's all setup for what's currently going on there?

It's interesting as pure fantasy.

There are 3 timelines in the beginning of the season.

Yennefer backstory (oldest...takes place over decades)
Geralt's weekly quests (15 years in the past)
Ciri timeline (present day)

Thanks.

I've never read a Witcher book or played a game but the show has been entertaining through 6 episodes.

The books are good. The games are great.

The world is outstanding. Classic European fables mixed with brutal politics puts it ahead of even GoT for me.

I am four episodes in and thoroughly confused. It must be the time mechanism. The show has been easier since I put on closed caption wording.

I am not crazy about it, not my style, but I feel like I am missing a big portion of the plot.

Closed captioning is a must when watching this show.

I liked it a lot.

Hard to get that “Toss a coin to your Witcher” song out of my head.

Season 2 should be very good.

They felt the need to introduce Ciri and the Northern War immediately. Questionable decision, but I can understand some reasoning for it.

Instead, I think there was plenty they could have focused on with Geralt and the Northern Kingdoms...the middle timeline of Season 1. A few more monster hunts... etc. Build up the political situation in the background. You'd still need a second, earlier timeline for Yennefer though.

But the show has aimed to be the next GOT, and Ciri and Nilfgaard help accomplish that.

Halfway through six. I am starting to put things together. I am enjoying it. Geralt is cool. Hard to believe they made the hunchback hot.
