The hawks wouldn't be much better with Q, but they sure wouldn't be worse. The roster is a problem...it's been a problem.

Still....they downgraded at Coach, for sure.

Marc Crawford apologized and has been in counseling. He can come back 1/2.

Counseling for what, not being a big pussy? This is the NHL, not preschool.

The NHL is entering the same Player Empowerment Era that the NBA entered. Learn to make it work for you.

So he gets to be home or at a resort for both Christmas and New Year's? Nice.

Anyone hear Eddzo get asked on the national broadcast if the Hawks might move Crawford? He didn’t answer the question rather he redirected saying it he would expect other teams to be interested. Clearly, he was caught off guard by the question and didn’t want to answer it.

Great effort the last 2 games.
Lehner is great!!! (no slam at Crawford)
Last 10 minutes of the 3rd period last night was a flashback to the glory days!!!
Duncan Keith with a perfect hip check, a la Doug Jarrett (rip,) chairman of the boards.

So what is Seabrook's injury to cause him to miss this road trip?

Hopefully it is injury or "load management" or wanting to fuck his wife loudly without Dach listening in from the guest room, and not something awful like cancer.

So I finally got around to watching the game thanks to the 48-hour blackout rule on NHL TV. Holy shit! Talk about a lack of effort. I don’t want to hear about Towes and Keith being pissed about anything. They just laid an egg against one of the worst teams in the league at home. Colliton wants to talk about consistency and Laz/Powers talk about how they have played great hockey in stretches this season but the reality is that unless this team plays at 100% effort, which no team can continuously, they are a lottery team. And you can see the result when they pack it in for the holiday break.

I HOPE TO GOD, this is what happens. Let him collect, and stick him on LTIL. Maybe the Coyotes will take him as well.

More importantly cap space is freed up.

For what? No reason to trade anyone for anything, shoot for a top 5 pick.

The cap space might be used to take an expiring contract but other bottom-dwellers are looking to do the same thing. This team should be in full tank mode. I sure hope this doesn’t open up some cap space for Erik Gustafsson. I am so tired of his game.

I am not referring to space this year. I am referring to getting out from under that dumb ass long term contract they gave him.

There are only 2 ways outside a buyout I see that happening. Either they get a top 5 pick and package it with him, or he goes on LTIL. Doubt they package the pick, since they could of this past offseason.

That might be the only thing that could save this team over the next 3 years. Don't know if it will happen, but it would make for a great Christmas present. i don't see any other way out of that contract.

A traditional buy-out offers very little relief due to the signing bonuses in the contract. The Leafs had to give up their 2020 1st round pick which should be 20-something in order to trade Patrick Marleau and his 1 year of 6.2 M cap hit. Seabrook will have 4 years at 6.8 M. I agree that it would take a lottery pick to move his deal this offseason. But the Hawks are years away from contending. You keep the pick and either let the contract expire or trade it with a year left.
