Embrace the process. Pressure exceed the pleasure . I’ll take stupid fucking marketing plans for $1000, Alex.

Life moves pretty fast, as they say. That is especially true in the lucrative world of pro sports, and perhaps even more so in the hyper-competitive hospitality industry.
To that end, the closing of Maddon’s Post after only seven months of business — and less than two years after it was first announced — seems fitting. The Wrigleyville restaurant was a joint venture between former Cubs manager Joe Maddon and former Spiaggia chef and founder Tony Montuano, two household names in Chicago. It featured dishes influenced by their Polish and Italian backgrounds.

Naming the restaurant after Maddon was a bold gambit, one that took a bad turn when the Cubs fired Maddon in October earlier this year. Then, in early December, Montuano announced that he would be stepping away from Spiaggia and other business and moving to Italy for the foreseeable future.
Eater Chicago, which first reported the news, cited a news release that reportedly “blamed Maddon and Mantuano’s departures for the closure.”

The restaurant opened in May, but it only lasted one disappointing season of Cubs baseball on the North Side.
As of Monday afternoon, the Maddon’s Post website featured only a landing page with text that begins “with gratitude,” then reads “To our family, friends and Chicago, we’ve enjoyed our run and we are grateful to all who walked through our doors to celebrate good times.”

Add another themed restaurant to the pile

Aurelio's also closed recently on Clark and Grace.

I'd wager another country music bar concept. Wrigley only has like 7 of those.

I deeply object to all this bro-country stuff around Wrigley. Leave that to Busch Stadium.

What 20 year olds are into country now? I thought all the kids these days eat nothing but benzos and listen to Soundcloud rappers with pending murder charges.

I can’t think of a more fitting description for Cub fans than Bro Country. At some point you just gotta accept that’s who you’re in with.

Look, I accept, even celebrate, the Whole Foods yuppies and the old lesbians in our rich tapestry, but country bros are where I draw the line.

Nobody gives Ditka his due credit.

Has had the signature spot that outlasted everyone else's.

A lot more old Bears meatball fans with old money than there are younger Cubs fans with disposable income.

Shit, Mangia was great...one of the only reasons to go to "K-Town" as the local Bros call it.

I guess we went there just over 2 years ago.

One of Mantuano's earliest places was self-named in the then new NBC Tower building. I had one of the best meals of my life there.

I went to a wedding reception at Spaggia a few years ago, and it was well done.

Aurelio's closed before I could even stop in...that old Piano Man location chews up another victim.

I had friends who knew him I guess, because we went to the Grand Opening for Mangia, many moons ago. Really good food.

Ditka's and Harry Caray's actually have good food though. Some of their dishes are outstanding.

I can't imagine a Joe Maddon restaurant doing anything unique enough to stand out in Chicago. Nor can I imagine it was at a price point to compete with other local outfits.

People overestimated just how valuable the Cubs brand was to have a restaurant work because a manager for them won a World Series.

That was a good spot. My ex-father-in-law took us there. It was the first time I ever heard of Tony. My father-in-law claimed to be good friends with him, but he was an extrovert so I can't trust that.

It must be good. He still has a Ditkas here and he hasn’t lived here in 50 plus years.

Isn't Ditka's just a rebranded version of Carlucci's?

It's not like Mike's back there trimming the steaks....
