Look unless they fire both coordinators and Nagy says he's taking a step back from the offense to be more of a head coach you're going to have your third consecutive year of the Bears running the same zone reads that everyone sees coming. I dont think Matt Nagy's ego is going to accommodate that type of self-criticism and what else can Pace do but supply him with what should be at least a playoff roster.

Where does this playcalling ego come from?

Somewhat surprised that there was absolutely almost no speculation from the Bears writers that I follow on twitter. They probably aren't very looped in to most of the Pace moves until they happen. I thought we would get some announcement today, but sounds like we're more likely to get Pace not wanting to comment on coaching moves until they become official (and then he'll be done with his press conference).

There have been pretty much no leaks from anyone in the Bears organization. That's impressive. I really expected someone from the defense to complain about the suckage on offense at some point but no one did.

They have to make some changes to the offensive staff, cannot bring the same group back again next year and expect a different result. The biggest failures have come in self scouting and player development They didn't know that Long was done? Can't see that Leno cannot move his feet and that Daniels get overpowered at the point of attack? Will not even get into the complete failure to develop a young QB as that is being discussed thoroughly in other threads. Moreover, the fundamental understanding that a competent running game not only gives your offense balance, but keeps your D on the sideline. Pace has to realize he's done if the team flops again next year. Time for George McCaskey put apply a little heat to the backsides of Pace and the Visor Boy.

mulli reporting this morning helfrich's job was basically the run game coordinator. yikes.

nagy was barely a coordinator before getting fast tracked to HC... i dont think he's capable of handing off play calling duties to someone else as he's basically only been doing it 2+ years. it's not like he can tutor someone since he doesnt know how to do it.

What exactly has Dave Ragone done to keep his job through two coaching staffs?

Tabor's special teams have been sloppy through his entire Bear existence. Sure there were individual good performances by O'Donnell, Cohen, and Patterson but all of those guys were veterans at their craft before his arrival. You think about it, the Bears lost several games because of ST including Pierre Louis roughing penalties and missed field goals.

I really don't know why Helfrich isn't looking for a return to college. He had a very good record at a power five conference. Why couldn't he get himself into the running for a place like Appalachian State or Memphis at the very least?

Great question, all summer long we were told that Ragone and Mitch had a great rapport and that Mitch now knew the offense and would take the next step, Chase Daniel was a coach on the field and was teaching Mitch the offense. If that was the case they failed spectacularly, why would you bring any of them back when Mitch not only did not progress he regressed under their tutelage. Most owners would fire the entire offensive staff, your GM conned you into spending all kinds of resources on Mack and told you the team was a contender while your HC bumbled away the season.

Nothing is going to happen today...but it would be nice to hear George say failure to make the playoffs next year will result in everyone being launched.
