This morning my wife abruptly announced that she was going to do a dry January and wanted to know if I was going to join her. My answer was no. January is such a cold and depressing month, sometimes having a drink or two on the weekend is the only thing to which you can look forward. I could see doing it during July or August where, even if you're not drinking, you can go out on the porch and have a cigar.

Nope.

I started January with 2 oz of bourbon at 12:03, so I think a dry January is out. Plus I am spending a day in Dublin this month which requires at least a couple of whiskies.

Maybe February.

The only thing you have to be careful with is that it doesn't do much if you don't also cut down on drinking after the month is over.

It could be harmful, like diets, if you're doing it because you have a problem. People should leave themselves open to a lifestyle change Feb 1. If you feel good, why stop with January? Go to the summer and re-evaluate.

This is what happened to me. Plan was 1 month, which turned into 7. Completely sober. I felt great. I drink less now because of that experience.

It'll be easy FF, especially with weed . Sports are better high anyway.

I'm doing this with you FF. Already had planned it. Starts tomorrow though . Will still be 30 days.

Jan 2 - midday Jan. 31, when I'm on a flight to Vegas for the Super Bowl.

I am up at the cabin. I am staring at snow covered evergreens after a half foot of snow. Hit my sleds yesterday. Was drinking bloody mary’s by 10:00 today. Heading back this afternoon to Illinois.

If the snow sticks, I’ll be back up this weekend.

Oh and drinking Jack Fire right now. Ran out of whiskey. Watching Mission Impossible Fallout on Prime.

I don't drink frequently enough where this would even be a challenge. I definitely go more than a month at a time not having consumed a drink at different points in the year.

I have to say that I would find it more difficult to stay away if I was purposely abstaining.

This is also how Coztansa rolled but with the little guy I'll still have a couple on Saturday even if I'm alone. Other days it is very much a rarity, outside of an occasional glass of red wine with dinner.
