Very establishment-liberal, very much In The Club. I don't mean to sound bitter, I liked her work, but I think it was always clear that she would be much more fortunate than other laid-off journalists.

I loved their debut album. Second greatest Scottish band ever...after the Bay City Rollers.

Is she a legitimate journalist or is she a news reader? I haven't listened to WXRT in a long time. When I did, I wasn't a fan of her delivery but don't remeber her doing anything other than being a news reader.

I'm pretty sure she wrote her own copy, but was not out there gathering news. I know they used to have a legitimate news department until they merged with WMAQ and/or WBBM.

Thanks. The reason I asked was because when I looked at her Twitter page there were several posts about how important jouralists are, including Thank You notes she received from a 5th grade class for talking to them about journalism.

A while ago they cut her down to top-of-the-hour newscasts down from top and bottom, and significantly shorter ones at that. They used to straddle breaks. Truth is they were basically the :20/:40 headlines that NPR does on off-hours. I think by the end she was doing more traffic than news.

The Chicago media lunch table on Twitter was chattering a lot about what a loss it was for XRT to drop its ultimately desultory newscasts, but like losing a loved one to dementia, you're often mourning someone/something that had already been gone. I think more than anything else, Mary Dixon's colleagues just really like her personally and are considerably less concerned with the greater ramifications of not doing the news after Instant Flashback (it was 1987, "Ghost on the Beach").

So, conceivably, she might never have to hear The Red Hot Chili Peppers again, until one of them die? That seems just.

The problem wasn't really the Chili Peppers, per se. The problem was that it was always The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie or something else they've recorded since 1996.

I read that Dave Miska is going with Mary Dixon to BEZ as a producer/engineer, but I dont know how that works. Was it part of her deal, a request, a coincidence?

It’ll have to come with a sizable portion of Julie’s ass also as Miska lips are firmly implanted on it .

I thought only damaneel can demand the services of The Affordable Dave Miska.

Does that mean that we don't have to hear him laugh along with Zach at Pat's bad jokes during Cubs' home broadcasts?

Either that or you will, but the play-by-play will be by Ira Glass.

How'd WBEZ get so cash-flush to make all these big hires, anyway? Did the wife of a local fast-food restauranteur die? A few years ago, they were purging the place because they spent all their money moving to Navy Pier. President Trump must be a hell of a fundraiser for them.

Per Feder, they're cutting the Big Beat down to one hour (the later one) with Jason Thomas gone, surprised they just didn't kill it completely like they did with Local Anesthetic, Jazz Transfusion, Live from the Archives, the Vinyl Frontier, the Eclectic Company, Sunday Night Concert, New Music Thursday, Friday Feature, and any sort of programming that wasn't songs by Cage the Elephant.
