Great move. Now just use him the right way.

Must have been those two interceptions he had this year on Hail Mary throws that did the trick.

YIKES>>>

He was used the wrong way. He's not a strong safety.

I think the main difference, in 2018 the Bears played with the lead a lot more often. This forced opponents to throw more and make more riskier throws which increased opportunities for Jackson.

All that being said, I don't think safety is a position you throw premium money at as production seems dependent on other functions of the game.

Missed having Amos as a reliable running mate.

There's no way Floyd is going to get the $13 million that he's owed for next season.

Of course not. He did nothing to earn it.

Amukamara is also owed $9,000,000 next year. I don't see that happening either.

The Bears had around 17 million(after Fuller's reworked deal) in cap space before this was announced..so they are back down to pretty much zero cap space. Long, Gabriel and Amukamara will all be cut to free up ~30 million in cap space.

We knew this was going to have to happen at some point. He’s one of the best in the league at his position so it’s hard to argue against it.

Khalil Mack has a $26 million cap hit next season. That can't be good.

Floyd and Trevathan could be gone too. I could see them signing Kwiatkowski long term to replace Trevathan.

Trevathan is a FA and isn't factored into the numbers. The linebacker next to Roquan will have to work for peanuts.

The guys the Bears need to keep on defense are..

1.Mack
2.Hicks
3.Jackson
4.Goldman
5. Most likely Roquan..

And they’ve got some of those guys locked down already. A lot of money tied up in defense tho right now.

It factors in because they may have to resign one of them.

Kevin-Pierre Louis looked good too. Interior linebacker is another position you don't sink premium money into. They are not going to spend at that position.

Money would be better spent on another rusher opposite Mack. Judon would be nice, but he's going to be too expensive I expect.

It is less than a week into the off-season. Dont be such a miserable Caller Bob that you're bitching about roster construction on January fourth when training camp is literally eight months away.

I also think you have about one more year before you can tolerate the two fatties(Goldman, Hicks) making a combined 20 million a year. They need to find some cheap/productive space eaters in the draft.

I get that the later rounds are more about finding the good players rather than the positions of need but it is a bit frustrating that the Bears loaded up on guys like Riley Ridley and Stephen Denmark when what they really needed was a wave of developmental guys they could try and get into the trenches (both offensive and defensive) in 2020. The fact that Nagy ran Kerrith Whyte out of town only compounds this.

Again, this is a minor complaint. The first goal of the draft is to take guys who can contribute regardless of position.

Pace likes the combine warrior types (Kevin White, Floyd, and Shaheen) over proven players from proven programs.

Those are basically the only three examples. He did take Kevin White, but he also took Roquan Smith. He took Adam Shaheen, but he also took Cody Whitehair. The late rounds have been a truly eclectic mix. Guys like Tarik Cohen and Eddie Jackson were definitely not combine warriors. Guys like Jordan Morgan and Tayo Fabuluje were, and I wish they'd back to taking more like them because when you hit on a guy like Tayo Fabuluje you usually have a starting caliber player for more than a decade.

Iggy, Fitts. and not even gonna bring up #10, these are all guys with limited production in college drafted over more productive proven players. However, your unwavering belief in Pace/Nagy will be put to the ultimate test next year...been reading that they are "strongly considering" not hiring in OC and doubling down on Nagy as HC and OC by just hiring a run game guy (is that really needed in this offense) and a pass game guy. So need to keep drafting guys that run great 40 times at the combine who can catch inaccurate passes tossed 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage, break 4 tackles, and gain 5 yards.

As I see it, it is obvious that they are going to have about $30M to spend in free agency. Their focus has got to be the offensive line and TE position. They ought to be able to find a good TE and two offensive linemen in the upcoming draft. They also could spend some of that free agent money on a legit offensive tackle to replace Leno.

Had to keep him

Seems a little rich for a down year. The highest paid safety in the league shouldn’t need to be used properly to be elite. A year ago we thought he could be earl thmoas. I didn’t see earl Thomas this year
