I follow a lot of college basketball. I, like most people, shrugged my shoulders when Wiseman quit.

They are the most discussed to you because of your admitted limited knowledge of college sports. You claimed before to barely watch any of it. Your knowledge probably comes from ESPN draft reports.

The projected #1 pick in the draft is playing for Georgia. No one cares.

JORR thinks he is playing in Champaign

Obviously you don't know as much as you claim to know if you think instituting high school to the pros rule would only effect 5-6 players a year. You fallaciously state this even as there are certain drafts in which the top 10 players are all one and done. Fairly Obvious you don't seem to know all that much.

They get paid what they do because college sports generate significant revenue and as of now the players have wage limits.

Yup. Name another state employee that brings in the revenue of Nick Saban unless you’re to count raising taxes.

Once again, it was 5 or 6 impact players. Plenty of one and dones don't have a major impact. N'Faly Dante is a projected lottery pick and he probably won't even be an all conference player.

By Chicago standards, it was a beautiful, balmy day for January 10. Classes at UIC had yet to resume after the holidays, but the 6-10 Flames men’s basketball team hosted Horizon League foe Green Bay.

Not surprisingly, fans didn’t pack the 8,000-seat UIC Pavilion. The Flames’ eventual 84-73 win over the Phoenix would be their second in a row, at the front end of what would become a 12-2 record through the next six weeks. But only 1,531 turned out for what seemed then like a relatively meaningless game.

The scene was hardly new for UIC. Having hosted plenty of sparsely attended games, it was a familiar story for a program whose operating expenses surpassed operating revenues by $731,411 in 2017, according to public records obtained by Medill Reports.

The athletic department has reasons to hope for a turnaround.

“We have hundreds of thousands of alumni living in this area,” said Ryan Ptak, UIC’s assistant athletic director of marketing and tickets. “We’ve never given them a reason to want to support our athletic program here.”

Market difficulties

Across college basketball, attendance has been declining for a decade. Data from NCAA.com show per-game Division I attendance hasn’t increased year-over-year since 2006-07.

This is the case at a lot of Universities. You remove 40-50 NBA prospects from the mix every year and it gets much worse for a lot of schools.

Attendance is going down in most sports both college and professional.

NBA and NBA Summer League Attendance have increased over the past 3-4 years.

Let’s say to round it off the Alabama athletic department took in 200MM of revenue in 2019. How much of that is incrementally attributable to Saban?

Since you are so big on "impact" riddle me this not so knowledgeable college hoop guy. When was the last time that the best player on either Duke or Kentucky wasn't a "one and done"?

Duke was 2017.
Kentucky was 2019. Ironically he was someone you had no clue about even after he was in the NBA.

Great question.

I noticed you didn't provide names. Shocking. Another of the just take "my word for it" styled arguments.

If One and Done types are as least impactful as you continuously suggest then why do college coaches spend top dollar for them? Wouldn't it be more beneficial and cheaper to sign guys that will be in the program 3-4 years? Remember according to you veteran players are more "impactful". They are also cheaper.

Hey Brick I get why you are so down on the NBA. Purdue players generally suck at the NBA level. That is if they ever get there at all. Saw the other day where Robbie Hummel is a sideline reporter. How old is he by the way 25? You have no rooting interest in the league since there are no Boilermakers there.

When was last time one made an impact NBA wise? Was it Rick Barry or Rick Mount?

That was not your question but the players were PJ Washington and either Grayson Allen or Luke Kennard.

Wasn't Jayson Tatum on that Duke team of 2017? He was hurt early and also considered the best player on the team by the end of the year. Allen flamed out as I remember.

It is clear you know very little about the NBA. Not that I care how they do besides making a lot of money but there is a 2 time All Star since Barry or Mount and also a guy with a career average of 20 points.

He was on that team. He wasn't their best player.

I'd like to hope that there are seeing as both guys checked out of Purdue about 50 years ago. The knowledge based assessment test isn't working out so well for you either. Keep trying however

Sort of validates the point. Glenn Robinson checked out of college 25 years ago.

Moore has done well as you know.

Carsen will do well.

I wouldn't care any more if LeBron had went to Purdue. I root for them to get paid well.

Let me ask you this Brick. If one and dones are as inconsequential as you continuously suggest then why do college coach after college coach jump all over themselves in order to sign them. Why not sign the Mikal Bridges types? less stress and less costly. Or even better Frank Mason?

Calipari doesn't really want you if you are there for more than a year.

Some are very high impact. I am not saying they don't matter. Most are good players. A few are dominant.

If they weren't there like with Wiseman and Ball people wouldn't care.

They get paid what they do because college sports generate significant revenue and as of now the players have wage limits.

Yup. Name another state employee that brings in the revenue of Nick Saban unless you’re to count raising taxes.

Let’s say to round it off the Alabama athletic department took in 200MM of revenue in 2019. How much of that is incrementally attributable to Saban?

The incremental revenue of Saban over a random college football coach is massive. Almost all college revenue is coming from basketball and football. Without Saban or someone like him, AL football is an afterthought. He is probably worth $50M or more to the school per year.

He is paid what he is because other schools would pay him that. People in the industry clearly know his value.

This isn’t even close. If Saban is so valuable why is Alabama not even the highest revenue school in the SEC? With numbers from 2017 - 2018 Bama took in 177MM of revenue, but how can Saban be that valuable if Georgia took in 176MM? Is Kirby Smart worth just as much as Saban? Is Saban magically adding 50MM of revenue to the Georgia program? Your answers don’t square up.

Even assuming Saban is worth $50MM (hint he isn’t) are you saying that as a businessman you are fine with paying essentially a 20% commission on that revenue?

When has Alabama football ever been an afterthought? The reason they got Saban in the 1st place was because of the high interest and expectations in the football program. They have never hurt for money in that area.

So why doesn't Bama fire Saban and keep the extra money?
