Good guy to keep around when we’re getting stomped and we just need someone to toss a few innings.

Herrera isn't going anywhere, at least for a couple months. he gets pretty big dough.

Yeah, I forgot that he’s making almost 9 million. Hopefully he can get back to a level where he’s at least mediocre.

My personal opinion, Maddon wrecked him. He racked on a bunch of miles on a guy who already had a bunch of miles. We just signed another Herrera

I think we'll get a decent bounceback out of Herrera.

You think the cutting edge White Sox lab guys can get his spin rate up?

I agree with Antarctica. Herrera was still feeling the effects of his foot injury well into the season. He actually finished the year fairly strong and figures to gain from a full spring training now that he’s (presumably) fully healthy.

Yeah. And the thing is with guys like him is that they can rebound from a bad year. He still has a power arm. He'll still be there.

I get that feeling as well.

He wouldn't have been my first choice for the money. However, he was the best of what was left and signed a one year deal. There is danger in signing these middle relievers to multi year deals, as we saw with Herrera.

Chishek just got signed for a year and a team option year. At about $5-6M per. Good move. He's really tough on right handed hitters. His stuff is really nasty and can hit his spots. I can see them adding a crafty lefty as well as probably adding Nova back as a spot starter and long relief guy.

Nova sucks and we all knew about Chisek yesterday.

Cishek is sketchy just like most of the rest of the pitching. I'm kinda counting on a less juiced ball because offensively, we can play with anybody. It's the pitching that needs some magic dust.

Bullpens, more than anything else in baseball, are a legit crapshoot from year to year.

Most of it has to do with the abuse that is the norm now.

Nova doesn't suck first of all. He knows how to pitch and eat innings. He would be a good long relief guy and would also be valuable in those instances where the pitching is such that they decide to go with multiple relievers instead of a starting pitcher. I said what I said about Chishek based on what I know about him and his delivery and stuff.

Official;

Quote:
CHICAGO — The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year, $12-million contract with three-time All-Star first baseman/designated hitter Edwin Encarnación, which includes a club option for 2021. Under terms of the agreement, Encarnación will receive $12 million in 2020, while the White Sox hold a $12-million option for 2021 which does not include a buyout.

To make room for Encarnación on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated left-hander Kodi Medeiros for assignment.
The fact that the Sox hold an option is awesome. If the kills it, you have him for 2021. If not, its a one year deal that doesn't hurt.

I think there's a pretty good chance Burdi is on the team next year. If not from the beginning, at least at some point. I also wouldn't be shocked if they got Kopech going out of the pen when he comes back like they did with Sale when he first came up, depending on how the starters are doing.

He's got a good chance and I agree about the possibility of Kopech starting in the pen. In a way, it does make some sense instead of rushing him back into a heavy workload starting situation.

Some have floated the possibility of Kopech becoming a dominant closer.

It could be but I doubt that would be anywhere near his first choice. The money is made by starters. Always has been that way and always will. It may be a fall back position for him if he can't for some reason be a successful starter but not as a plan starting now.

Not sure if this has been posted yet: Sox worst of the decade. Since 2012, it's been all bad.

My daughter turns 10 this year. During her lifetime the Blackhawks have more Stanley Cups than the white Sox have winning seasons.

Quite possible worse. I fear her becoming a Braves fan.

Doesn't mean he won't be back. No one is gonna claim him, and he will go to Charlotte.
