Regardless of the outcome...this thing should have been done already.

Conspiracy theory.....they're gonna rule in the Cubs favor, but they're penalizing them by delaying the answer??? Someone on the radio mentioned this. Who knows.

I don't think it's a conspiracy, but it's really silly that it's taken this long for a ruling.

I'm not even sure why this was a thing. Yeah it was a bullshit move, but it was a move the Cubs were allowed to make within the rules.

The Sox kinda did do that with Eloy at the end of 2018.

The players should be mad at the MLBPA who allowed this in their CBA. Being mad at the team is misplaced anger.

I'm not really sure about that. Not that the White Sox wouldn't take advantage just like every other team. I just think everyone knows that it will be addressed in the next CBA and guys that are brought up after the first month will probably be credited for the service time so it doesn't really make sense to hold your best players down when they could be playing for the big club.

Eloy would not have been up until May last year without the deal. Same with Robert. I don't think the rule changes. Owners are stronger than the players and players do not exactly have a history of helping out guys trying to break into the league.

That also brings up the question as to why the Cubs wouldn't pay what Bryant thought he deserved to get to be up immediately?

Because back then the Cubs thought Bryant would be a HOF player, and they had a Tsunami of talent coming to the big leagues.

Neither seemed to pan out.

Yep. Bryant's grievance should be against the MLBPA, not MLB. Takes nothing away from it being a shitty ass rule, but that's the MLBPA giving zero fucks about rookies and focusing the benefit on veterans.

You may be correct about Eloy. But we're getting closer to the CBA expiring. I think with guys coming up this year there will be accommodations made regarding service time. Of course the owners want to control the young guys as long as they can. And there's not much incentive for a 30 year old guy to give up a year of his career to help some guy who is 16 now. But the way roster construction has trended and with the crackdown on PEDS, you can see that the average age of the players in getting younger. It will take strong leadership, but it's in the long term interest of the players.

why is a guy who everyone acknowledges has played through injury a soy boy

Cub fans will regret the desire to trade him when he comes back healthy and winning MVPs for another team

I don't think of him as a soy boy or soft.

The bottom line is, as a Boras client...he's going to get an absurd contract. They're not going to sign him Long term, so the time to deal him is now. The pitching staff is in no way going to take this team to the world series, anyway.

Pitchers are ticking time bombs. Manipulating service time on them is dumb.

Yeah. Also, he's never quite seemed the same since he was hit by that pitch.

I look at him as a beta because I think he lets his daddy and his agent run his life. I don't think he's ever had an original thought of his or made a decision on his own.
