Arenas is correct about the whole legacy thing. The media has driven the narrative regarding rings and championships being the ultimate decider for at least 2 decades in my opinion and it is essentially false. You don't need rings to be in the conversation for best players in history. Your work as a player should be independent of that. I agree that if you are great then your team should at least contend for championships at some point but I don't winning it all should be the be all and end all of every conversation.

Durant was going to be among the top 2-3 guys in the league regardless of whether he won or not. The worst part of his decision was that he sold out a team that was easily capable of beating G.S. Not just because he left but because of the way he played in the latter part of the series. OKC was the more talented team. You go back tweak a few things and beat them the next go around.

Winning 2 rings under those circumstances actually hindered his legacy more than losing with OKC ever could've. Garbage ass Draymond's outburst I'm certain was related to that.

Westbrook played with a lot of heart all series and Durant quit. You could see it on his face and his body language. It was like watching LeBron against the Celtics before he left Cleveland the first time.

Honestly, it would get pretty old playing with someone who displays the coping skills of a 3 year old whenever adversity hits.

I don’t blame KD for wanting to get away from Westbrook.

Durant wanted rings, and got them.

It’s obvious those rings feel pretty hollow tho when you’re constantly engaging people on social media.

It speaks to his own insecurity. He has acted as if he knows deep down that there is some validity to what was being said about him. He also had to deal with the lasting perception that they would have won it with out him for three years. Interesting thing is that I really don't believe that they would've. Durant bailed them out in every big playoff game for 2 seasons and looked like he was on his way to doing it again before he tore his leg up.

If he stays with OKC and knocks off G.S. then his legacy as a player is cemented. Just like Dirk's happens to be as a result of knocking off Miami. The entire perception of him changed after that series and playoff run. Durant's legacy (and no matter what he says to the contrary) will always be that of a guy that sold his team out first in the series, then by leaving and teaming up with the team that he sold out to.

He knows it and that is why he has had trouble letting it go. I also believe that is why he left for Brooklyn. He wants to win one elsewhere in order to quiet his critics down.

This is exactly why I will never be a fan of Durant again and I hope he loses every time. I was a fan of that OKC team. I wanted to see Westbrook and Durant get it done. They had GS beat. Then instead of working hard the next year to take out GS, you just go and join them to get your championships. Weak ass shit. Durant could have been remembered in such a different light, but he will forever be attached to such a decision.

They were the more talented team. They had them. Donovan didn't do them any favors with some of his coaching moves i.e benching Kanter and going away from his power lineup late in the series. Played Robertson too much also. They were not even guarding him. Still had them beat.

Now he is relegated to being a coattail riding winner for the rest of his career. It is going to be hard to shake that perception.

There is no way to defend Durant going to G.S.

I do empathize with his decision of wanting to get away from Westbrook’s temper tantrums tho.

Westbrook was the leader. Durant was the brat.

Chris Paul
Kevin Durant
Russell Westbrook
Paul George
James Harden
Victor Oladipo

Sam Presti has had all of those players in various combinations on his rosters in the last decade and come up empty, empty, empty. A halfway decent GM in a coma could win multiple rings with the talent that's passed through OKC under Presti.

How dare you forget Carmelo Anthony? LTG would like a word with you.
