Easily my favorite drummer of all time. He was supposedly a very cantankerous interviewee. I remember Jim Derogatis saying he would chastise you if you asked him a question that he had already answered in print at any point in the recent past.

Several hours after hearing the news and the shock wearing off...I'm in bed....just thinking about how many years Rush and Neil have been a part of my life. I teared up a little just sitting there thinking about all that. I don't get star-struck....not really interested in meeting anyone like this, as you hear too often....it's a let down or there a jerk.

Still....I'm 47 and Neil inspired me for 36 of those years. This hurts. I'm mostly just sad that it's all over....there will never be anything new he puts out.

I feel ya. It's hangin' with me too. When I was a young unsophisticated lad and heard 2112, I didn't know much, but it wasn't hard to figure out that the drummer absolutely DOMINATED!

So the grandkids are about the age I was when I began listening to Rush. Tonight we began watching the Netflix special. This is what the old man enjoyed and a bit of the why. They made it through an hour and fell asleep. They'll come around.

This really sucks. The last legit rock show I went to was the R40 Tour. Me and my kid went to see them at United Center but 4 of his friends wanted to go too so I got 6 in the 2nd row for the show at The Palace 2 days later. It was really cool taking a bunch of 16 year old kids to see them. Before the show we talked to Randy Johnson for about 10 minutes. He was touring with the band as photographer. Jacob's Ladder blew their minds...they were just taking it all in...the music and lights. Really cool night that they still talk about.

Rush was such a strange band. When I was in high school they were my favorite band but all my friends thought they were lame. When I went to see them on the Counterparts tour nobody would go except for my neighbor who was in band and was a total Rush freak. About 20 years later I'm taking the QB and most of the offensive and defensive line to see them. Its strange how they got cooler as they got older.

Peart was always the appeal to me. He was a GOAT that the Geddy tried to live up to. Lots of times unsuccessfully, IMO. The two best things about Rush were the lyrics and the drums. Both provided by Peart. When I think of signature Rush, I think of Limelight, but I know I'm in the minority. Much bigger Peart fan than Rush fan

C’mon man. Geddy is a acknowledged all-timer on bass all while fucking singing at the same time . You’re acting like if it wasn’t for Peart he was just hack .

Rush and the Police have similar dynamics, where the bassist and drummer are the driving creative forces and the guitarist is a distant third. Unusual.

I was certainly of that opinion of Andy while the Police were together for sure and I couldn’t have been more wrong. He’s a beast, his solo jazzy stuff is incredible.

I'm not saying that. I'm saying he got out of his body from time to time with over complications and keyboard drivel.

Rush/Peart said in interviews they admired the Police and used some of the reggae taste. Also to sell Alex short is just wrong.

Hardly a backpedal. It was a correction of a misstatement. I never came close to saying The Geddy was a hack.

Yeah Alex was definitely pulling his weight. He's a great player and writer. He came up with a lot of the music during soundchecks that they would record for later when they went back in the studio. I have board bootlegs from some of their Hemispheres shows where they were playing Cygnus Book 1 and 2 as a single piece and the stuff Alex is pulling off is insane. To do it in the studio is one thing but to do it live is quite another. I'd be hard pressed to find somebody more versatile. Every other album practically they were going off in some new direction. It was more difficult for him to stand out because there are a lot of great guitarists out there and he was always content to do what the song required.
