People proud of their state either spent their formative years here or created lasting memories. Nothing wrong with being proud of where you came from.

Chicago is a world class city and many of proud of this jewel surrounded by desolation.

I want the state to fail, so it can get better.

As much as I would like to leave IL, its easier said than done with 98% of our friends and family in the area.

Also, I would be a bit leery of straying too far from the Great Lakes for the simple fact that clean water will never be an issue here.

I've spent 25 years of my adult life paying IL income and property taxes. When I move out in 3 years, I'll have zero guilt. I've done my part. That's not rooting for IL to fail. That is self-preservation.

Sadly, there is no saving IL. The damage is done.

Thought I bolded the If the progressive income tax passes, I will work from home in Central Wisconsin in 2021. They are not taking 10% of my salary.

That’s kind of my point.

Living in IL is limiting your saving potential (granted you can find adequate work somewhere else).

If you could save in between $10-$15k more a year just by avoiding ridiculous property and income taxes why wouldn’t you?

Memories and pride can only go so far before I start to question if you’re mentally handicapped.

I love Illinois. Would like to live in certain parts at some point again. Every place has issues.

Retirement is a long way away but I'd be gone for January through March from the Midwest every year if I could.

wisconsin has madison and green bay. both wonderful cities. milwaukee is fun to visit but i wouldnt want to live there. the rest of the state is pretty desolate, but overall everyone up here actually likes to have fun. and drink. a lot.
